Used to buy all the cheap aviators and was never pleased with them, but with the new ray bans they don't feel like they are going to break in my hands and they look so much better than the cheap ones. Of course you have to pay the big dollar price for them, but i consider it an investment in my flying career. | I have worn Outdoorsan sunglasses for over 30 years and continue to buy them. The lenses are great for shooting and fishing. They absolutely take a beating. I like the cables on the ears to keep the glasses from slipping. My frames normally last from 5-6 years before they get bent and beat up. ConsAfter yrs of use, you might want to check the screws. sometime they get loose. General Commentsi don't wear sun glasses while flying, that's because, sun glasses makes it hard to see on the ground if you are making emergency landing, i see better with out them, well, unless your the passenger. than it's ok to wear. |

Date - 2-26-2009 Pilot Rating - Private OverallDurability Reliability Value Usability Expected Recommended Yes | The Outdoorsman sits close to the face, making the frames disappear almost completely from your peripheral vision while also minimizing reflections off the back of the lens due to light entering from the side and above. Very secure -- absolutely will not move once you put them on. Folded up, they are very flat (unlike a lot of modern "fashion shades"), so they carry easily in a shirt pocket or satchel pouch and are not as vulnerable as some styles to being bent or broken. I know from experience that they are still entirely useable after being rolled on by a camel. Light and comfortable for extended periods. ConsIt's a two-step or two-handed job putting them on, due to the cable-type ear pieces. Not a huge disadvantage, of course. General CommentsThese are the best all-around sunglasses, in my experience. I really like Serengeti lens optics, but the Ray-Ban Outdoorsman is the most practical style to live with. |
