    Pros

Cost effective radio for backup and just monitoring AWOS, ATIS, and Unicom for your effective airport. Very well built and durable.

    Cons

Some say that programming is hard, I found it very easy other than it not a quick process, but worth the effort.

    General Comments

I would recommend this product to all.

    Pros

Many Features. Hefty handheld that feels like it could take a beating. Good clarity. Great reception. Good battery run time. Great size, fits easily in hand but not too small. Comes with headset adapter.

    Cons

While the keypad and screen is backlit, the 2nd function labels on the key pad are not.

The planes I rent all have mono ICS/Radio set up, this unit seems to only have stereo . I'd have to switch modes on my headset during an emergency for proper reception.

Some features and settings are cryptic and ill explained in the manual (this is more of a manual problem than radio problem).

    General Comments

I purchased his radio as backup/emergency and it fits the bill.

Out of the box it's easy to use as a basic com/nav.

Expanded features take a little hunting and pecking, re-reading the manual and keeping track of the knobology. However, this seems par for the course for handhelds.

Great reception. I can hear the local CTAF while indoors, 7 miles away.

    Pros

The memory scan feature is excellent for listening to several frequencies in your area from the ground.

    Cons

A longer antenna would probably pick-up further when on the ground.

    General Comments

Should be very useful in case of comm or nav equipment failure or for cross checking operability.

    Pros

Good clear audio and good reception. Easy to use. Small in size and weight. Good battery time. Easy to read display.

    Cons

Difficult to determine the right button in the dark when they are not lit. Would be better if they were slightly glow in the dark or a central had a raised bump for identification.

    General Comments

Got the radio mainly as a backup and ground safety device, and for use in aircraft with no radios. Flying the kinds of operations that I do I don't want to be left without a working radio, and the nav feature it nice in this respect as well. Very pilot friendly and easy to program and use once you spend a few min. looking it over and reading the directions. Very useful tool.

    Pros

Very well built, small for the features. It is brand new, but knowing Vertex and thier sister companies (they are big in ) reputation, I expect it to hold up very well.

Basic operations are simple and the NOAA weather feature is easy to use and a nice addition.

    Cons

None that I have found yet. Haven't played with advanced programing yet, but does not appear to be intuitive.

more logical interfacing than the vxa-220 which I am also very happy with. Bought this for the nav feature and I am very pleased... lost my a/c VOR and this saved my airborne butt... I was in the clouds.... thank you sporty's and vertex. I only had this for 5 days before I absolutely needed it! If I could give the product 10 stars across the board I would! I might like to be able to compare this to the Sporty's SP-200, but the size of the Vertex-300 is what tipped the scales for me.... still curious though

    Cons

    none

Solid unit. Simple to use duplex communications. Easy to start-up.

    Cons

Complicated function structure. Very difficult to get full use of all capability. Hard to remember logic and knobology to operate in more than the simple monitor function, or the simple dublex communication mode. Very complicated insturctions and set-up between various functions.

    General Comments

I would recommend it for techies, or if you can stand to study for hours the operational methodology.

Purchased radio prior to a long cross country. The radio was used as a back up and performed very well. Utilized it a couple times to confirm position since aircraft had only 1 nav radio. The nav function worked very well and would match the aircraft nav receiver's indications. I found it fairly easy to program and use but I have worked with Vertex radios for years. Would highly recommend this radio. It has more functions than are listed. Very customizable.

Very clear and seems to pick up from at least 10 miles out. Like the size and the LED back ights.

    Cons

Seems to be complicated to get the hang of. Too many things to choose from and that makes it a little bit complicated.

    Cons

manual says not to recharge battery until empty; meaning that you should really have 2 batteries; would probably get a radio with a lithium battery next time

    General Comments

good radio, decent price, fairly easy to use once you study the manual a little bit - most simple functions are intuitive (with the exception of setting squelch), advance functions require reading
