This product lets you in on the "secret language" that you need to know. It also covers almost all of the various situations that you will encounter.

It looks like it was made as an old DOS program but once you get past that, it does what it says it will.

It is a good VFR simulator to workout mic fright and to gain better communication proficiency on the ground before being sent into the mix of communication demands while in the air.

I would recommend it to anyone who is new or rusty with VFR communications.

Is worth the investment for a first timer and anyone wanting to do a good basic review

The exercises help one gain exposure to many radio communication interactions that exist during student pilot training, and to break potentially bad habits such as dropping make or model from call sign or abbreviating call sign before ATC.

The visual elements of the software (ie. graphics) are outdated and not very pleasing to the eye. In addition, often times one has to hold the PTT button for several moments longer after end of transmission to trick the program, or else it will say "you must hold the button during the entire transmission" or something to that effect, which gets very annoying after the tenth time in 5 minutes.

I believe this software is a little overpriced, but does help one understand many of the situations that are not easily understood without such assistance.

Great too; to build your confidence. It is especially useful to me since I am training in the New York City area with a large class bravo. It could get intimidating and this helps out alot. Highly recommended

You have to buy the headpiece seperate but it really makes the whole experience realistic.

I found the CD very helpful. It's easy to use and stays on topic. It covers all of the usual radio communications, and I found the simulated tuning of the radio helpful as well.
I like the CD, and will continue to use it to review my radio work.

Works pretty much as advertised BUT has system problems.

Both the VFR and IFR versions tend to "lock-up" for no apparent reason, necessitating a re-boot of the entire computer.

Pain in the backside.

Better attention to detail will prevent repeated references to the "National Ocean Services" when the proper term is "National Ocean Survey."

This is an EXCELLENT training product. I fly from a non-towered field and don't get a lot of opportunities to talk to ATC for real. The practice scenarios are very realistic (down to tuning a "virtual radio" on the screen by using your mouse turn dials and push buttons), and cover virtually every type of airspace and communication need. You listen to a pre-practice brief, work through a scenario by using similated cockpit resources (A/FD, etc), and listen and talk to simulated controllers, complete with realistic interference and competing radio traffic. Then, the program gives you feedback on your choices and lets you hear both an 'expert' rendition of the radio exchanges, and your own recorded voice for comparison.
I use this product to brush up before cross-country flights, and it's done wonders for my radio skills. I used to get tongue-tied, but the practice I get from COMM1 helps me to sound clear, concise, and professional.
The program installed easily and runs smoothly on my 3-year-old Macintosh computer. It works seamlessly with either the built-in mic and speakers on the computer, or a USB headset. I have been recommending it to everyone at my local FBO.

Operations in every type of airspace are covered EXCEPT for the DC ADIZ. This is not of concern to pilots who don't fly in this region, but I do, and the ADIZ doesn't work like other airspace. So, while we hope the ADIZ will one day go away, it would be nice if COMM1 added a lesson on it to a future release of this software.

The program was professionally done and certainly boosted my communication skills.

This radio simulator did not contain an adequate number of exercises. The developer really needs to provide more for the money. It was not a great investment.
