    Active Noise Reduction (ANR)

    Active Noise Reduction (ANR)

Active Noise Reduction is a system of tiny microphones and speakers that listens to the ambient noise and electronically reduces it in the headset. ANR is particularly effective at cancelling low frequency noise (like engine noise,) and allows the headset to be both quieter and smaller than passive headsets. ANR headsets do require a power source, either battery or panel.

Perfect fit for my Citation 1SP
    Pros

Great comfort and basically eliminates all cockpit air noise in my Citation.

    Cons

Seems to be excessive wiring to each earpiece that can catch on things.

    737 cockpit
    Pros

Definitely best compromise between size, weight, functionality, and cost for ANR. Works great with oxygen mask. Cuts 75% of 737 cockpit noise. Also can still communicate by voice cross cockpit.

    Cons

Slight fatigue on ears compared to ear piece, but worth the noise reduction. Wire connections to earpieces potentially vulnerable to failure over time due to thickness and flimsy nature.

    General Comments

    Seems to be great quality.

Really lightweight, for the most part really comfortable.

    Cons

Foam ear pads start to hurt ears after awhile. ANR is good but I thought it would block out more noise. A bit overpriced.

    General Comments

Good product for the most part. ANR doesn't block out as much noise as I thought it should. Lightweight and comfortable. Like all headsets it starts to hurt your ears after awhile.

    Pros

Light weight, worked as advertised. We use a pair of Telex 850 headsets in a corporate Challenger where the noise cancelling feature is useful in reducing wind noise in the cockpit.

    Cons

Ear cushions are not as comfortable as I would like. The telex 750's were more comfortable with the foam coverings.
