E6B Flight Computer Software by Sporty's for Palm OS (PDA Not Included)
Sporty’s E6B Palm software performs 23 aviation functions and 14 aviation conversions. Same pilot-friendly design makes quick work of any navigational, weight and balance, or fuel problem and it also performs conventional arithmetic calculations. The conversion function lets you go from nautical to statute, fahrenheit to celsius and 12 other common conversions at the touch of a button. The software prompts you for the proper inputs as you work through a problem line-by-line. Information from previous computations is automatically retained for future use—no need to retype old data into new problems—just like our Electronic E6B Flight computers. Clock page permits simultaneous tracking of Zulu, Home and Local time zones. The advanced timer counts up or down and operates independently so you can perform other calculations while the timer is running. Upon reaching zero in the countdown mode, the timer begins flashing—a useful feature for missed approaches, switching tanks, etc. PDA Software is not approved for use during FAA exams. Inputted information stays there, in spite of closing the program or soft-starting the PDA, which is a good benefit. No crashes of the system yet, either. ConsNo instructions, so there's a lot of guesswork to make things work. The acronyms that are used for different functions aren't standard, so it's a little hard to know what page will come up until it's been used for awhile. The font is very small on a Palm Centro--might be larger on a larger PDA--but there's no way to change it. General CommentsEverything is there, but it's a little problematic to access without practice. The font is too small, making it hard to use "on the fly". |

ConsI am informed that palm-based E6B calculators are not allowed in examinations (due to the possibility of cheating), while regular E6B calculators (ones that do not have other functions, email, etc.) are allowed.
