    Pros

Excellent product. Everything you expect from Garmin. I purchased it primarily for the weather capabilities and it has proved invaluable.

    Cons

Downloading the databases is not intuitive and the website needs to have an easier flow.

Many great options and having the weather radar is great. Has many functions available to make flight planning and enroute planning easy.

    Cons

Price of adding weather radar to this unit is costly in my opinion and if the unit gets too hot in the cockpit it will shut off. That usually happens when I need it the most. Battery life is not as good as I would like.

    General Comments

Overall I'm pleased with it but for the price, it ought to include the weather radar subscription for at least a year. Hint, hint.

    Easy to use; Solid Performance
    Pros

Clear screen, easy to use ( I trained in a G1000 equipped 172S) the Aera is simple and fast - much easier entry than all the knob spinning and clicking on the G1000). I fly a Remos, a piper arrow and some 172's with steam guages - the Aera gives me a reliable unit that is ALWAYS familiar. The Wx is awesome in SE Texas - pop up TS are always a factor and it is nice to know what is ahead of me.
The touchscreen is really nice - not too sensitive.
the size is good - it doesn't get in the way yet provides a good enough picture for situational awareness.

    Cons

The very expensive subscriptions - while the 1st year of map updates is included - the XM Wx and Radio are costly; I am almost scared to find out what map costs will be... I do use an iPad too so some of my info may remain there.

My 3 stars in value is due to the high cost of the subscriptions/updates - the unit itself comes with all the cables and antennas and mounts that you need and is well packaged.

    General Comments

The unit is easy to use - the yoke mount works well
The XM radio is nice in the plane and the car.

the car mode works well - too bad to get the FULL nexrad you have to switch to aviation mode.

    Pros

The Garmin aera 560 is a great product with excellent features. It instantly helped with situational awarness and lets me spend more of my attention to flying the plane and less time looking at my map or flight plan and I love the touch screen. It also works very well as an auto GPS.

    Cons

Some of the more advance features are a bit difficult to figure out and the manuals are a bit to technical. I wish they had more video training aids online to learn the more advanced features.

It would have been nice if it came with a back up battery. The battery life seems to be really good on a full charge (like 4 hours) however, some of the older planes I fly do not have lighter plug so a back up battery would be nice for peace of mind in case you do not have time to charge the battery on a return leg or a long flight.

    General Comments

I would recomend this product especialy now that the price has dropped.

    third Garmin GPS
    Pros

Quicker and more functional than the 396 I replaced with this. The 396 was never reliable, would turn itself off randomly, wouldn't recognize the battery was connected. Avionics shop it was purchased from would only send it to Garmin to evaluate for $425, so I sent it to Garmin myself for $400. Worked about three months, and started all the old problems again, Garmin sent a second new battery, but that didn't help. Gave up on the 396 as unreliable even when it was working sporadically. I'm hoping the new technology in the Aera gets around the 396's faults.

    Cons

Touch screen not perfect in turbulence. Will have to see if the Aera works any longer than the 396. Went with another Garmin because I already had an XM weather account.

    Pros

Good for serious IFR weather determination.
Good reception even without an external GPS antenna (I have mine on the central console in a C182.
Easy to use interface during flight.

    Cons

Appears to have a short battery life when using XM antenna and without external power.
    Larger display would be nice.

    General Comments

Fellow Pilots please learn from my mistake.
Last year at Airventure I bought a Flightprep product that was supposed to deliver the same services as the Garmin Aera 560 with weather etc, but with a bigger display. That purchase turned out to be a big mistake. On my first flight I discovered that the Flightprep display could not be read in direct sunlight. In subsequent flights the Flightprep would fail altogether, just when I needed weather info the most.
I have used the Aera on two flights just recently and put it through the paces. It worked flawlessly, was easy to use, and could be read in direct sunlight.
My use has been too short to say much about the reliability but compared to my experience with the FlightPrep, it is much better.

nice size, easy touch screen. Cann't say much on durability or reliability, only had the unit a short time.It does make life better in the air......... I like the unit over the other products on the market.

    Cons

Batt life short, need external batt or.............Instructions very poorly written, not good for the everyday pilot...They need to use the KISS rule..They assume you own a unit and know how to use their product.... Need better way of turning on and off the unit, sometimes I dont know if it is turnoff or just the screen. Would be nice to have adapter for the bose head set included.

    General Comments

Dont like the all the extra fees, you need to have some money to pay for fuel, if they would keep the price down, I know several other pilots would jump on the band wagon. Hope the screen holds up and if it doesnt, hope they stand behind the product, over all it is GREAT,

I like the 4.3 screen. User friendly. Subscribed to wx and really like this feature. So far, real pleased with the Garmin 560.

    Cons

When I updated the free aviation database I still get the same expiration date of October 2010. I updated in April 2011. It took 4 hours to update. Do not understand the expiration dates not changing to April 2011. Makes me wonder if I got the updates.

Extremely easy and intuitive to use! Touch screen works great!!! Comes with a year of free updates!!!

    Cons

Battery life when using XM weather. I think Garmin should come up with an extended batttery. Personally I'd rather have an aviation GPS only and save a few dollars, because I will never use it in my car, I already have one for that purpose!

Nice screen view, nice colors, easy to find pages fast with the touch screen, nice compact case to store the unit, easy to type in information needed, unlike scrolling to all the spaces to type in like the Garmin 496.

    Cons

Seems like the XM weather antenna for this unit takes a lot longer to access all the weather details, and even longer for the weather to animate.
I wish I could re-organize the icons on the automobile pages to access the ones I use the most without changing pages.

    General Comments

My Garmin 496 developed enough malfunctions to not be safe to fly with... I started to buy another 496, but went with the nice sale price on the Aero 560, since the 496 is now discontinued by Garmin. I would say that was a nice choice, with so many convenient and advanced features of the Aero. It is more user friendly and faster to access information. I use it every day in my highway patrol car, and will use it whenever I fly my 1958 Cessna 175.

So far I have used it mostly in auto mode and am impressed with the information it contains.

    Cons

The databases for the aviation mode expired in Aug. & Sept. 2010 meaning I received a valuable tool that was out of date before it was shipped. Am I missing something here??

    General Comments

As I get used to the aviation mode I am sure I will have more comments both pro and con. While quite pleased to date with the unit, I am very disappointed to know that I have to renew the subscriptions immediately.
