Subscription-free weather, GPS and single band traffic.
The original Stratus is the easiest, least expensive way to get subscription-free weather on your iPad. Stratus is a totally wireless, portable receiver that streams NEXRAD radar, text weather, TFRs and GPS position to the ForeFlight app—all without a monthly subscription. Simply turn on Stratus, connect to your iPad and go flying. There are no wires, no subscriptions and no hassles.
Why Stratus is different:
- Totally wireless. Other weather receivers require power cables, external antennas and messy installation. Stratus is completely portable. With an internal GPS, built-in ADS-B antenna and 8-hour battery, there are zero wires, and the non-slip case can be placed out of the way.
- Longest battery life. The last thing you need to worry about when you’re avoiding weather is whether the battery will die on your weather receiver. So Stratus has an 8-hour rechargeable battery built-in. No cigarette lighter is required, and you can fly all day on a single charge.
- Seamless integration with ForeFlight. Stratus is the only ADS-B receiver that works with ForeFlight, aviation’s most popular app. That’s because Stratus was designed from the ground up to integrate with the app, so you can view complete status information right from the moving map page. Stratus simply works the right way.
- Incredibly easy to use. With just one button and virtually no setup, you can take Stratus on every flight. After the first use, Stratus automatically connects to your iPad, so you can simply start ForeFlight and go flying. It’s perfect for renters, flying clubs and corporate flight departments.
WiFi connection allows multiple iPads to connect to Stratus. ADS-B coverage varies by location and altitude – does not work on the ground in most locations. Coverage not available outside US. Comes with charging cable and 110V wall plug; charging cable works with all 2.1 amp cigarette lighter plugs as well. Measures 4.25" w x 5.75" d x 1" h. Weighs 11.4 oz. Made in USA.
Requires ForeFlight Mobile app (version 4.5 or higher – free update available). iPad 2 or higher is strongly recommended for best performance. Also works with iPad Mini.

“Stratus is not only a terrific product, but it’s one for which I’d give a very strong ‘buy’ recommendation to our readers.” —Robert Goyer, Flying Magazine

Frequently Asked Questions
How good is ADS-B coverage? Stratus receives weather data from a nationwide network of ground stations, so you must be in range of a station to get updated weather. This network is being built out by the FAA, and much of the country has excellent coverage right now. In general, east of the Mississippi River, throughout Texas and up the West Coast has good coverage above 1000 ft. AGL. See this map for latest updates.
What about overheating? Just like your iPad, Stratus has a large lithium battery inside, which can overheat in extreme temperatures. To prevent damage, the unit will shut itself off when it gets too hot. As a result, we recommend you do not place Stratus on the glare shield when in flight. The ideal position will allow for reception of GPS (view of the sky) and ADS-B (view of the ground) signals while staying cool. Options include a co-pilot seat or back seat. An optional suction cup window mount is also available, and provides for the best GPS and ADS-B reception, and virtually eliminates any chance of overheating.
What weather products will I receive? Stratus sends the following weather products to ForeFlight: NEXRAD radar, METARs, TAFs, TFRs, SIGMETs, AIRMETs, NOTAMs, Pilot Reports and wind/temperature aloft.
