Why the GoPro Hero3 is the best camera yet:
The GoPro Hero3 goes far beyond simple high definition recording, allowing you to capture video in ultra-high resolution 4k or 1440 at 48 frames per second (fps). There are also some amazing slow motion options, including 1080p at 60 fps and 720p at 120 fps. On top of this, the Hero3 Black Edition offers outstanding low light performance—a critical area where lesser cameras simply can’t keep up.
A good camera is worthless without a good lens, and the Hero3 offers reduced distortion with a 6-element aspherical lens. Unlike other cameras, you’re not limited to a wide-angle only. The Hero3 offers user-selectable modes: ultra-wide, medium and narrow fields-of-view. Go ultra-wide for a full cockpit shot, then narrow for an out the front window shot on landing.
The GoPro Hero3 can do more than just video: it includes a 12 megapixel still camera too. Take individual pictures anytime, or use the Time-lapse Photo mode to take a picture every 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds. It’s a unique way to record a cross country flight. There’s also Continuous Photo mode, which can take 3, 5, or 10 photos per second. Finally, Burst mode can take an incredible 30 photos per second. There’s even the option to do simultaneous Still Photo and Video recording!
Built-in WiFi – use the remote or your smartphone
The mounting options for your GoPro are almost endless, since the camera can be controlled remotely. The Black Edition includes a WiFi remote control, so you can start and stop recording from the left seat no matter where the camera is located. Or, use the free GoPro app for iPhone and turn your phone into a viewfinder.
Free desktop software available
When you’re back on the ground, GoPro offers free editing tools, called CineForm Studio. This easy-to-use program allows you to play back and trim your video clips or adjust frame rates, white balance, saturation and contrast. You can also create videos from your timelapse photos. Runs on Mac OSX 10.6 or 10.7 and Windows XP, Vista and 7.
Notes: Weighs just 2.6 ounces; measures 2.3” x 1.55” x 0.08”. Requires microSD card for recording, up to 64GB (class 10 or higher required). Recording time varies with resolution and frame rate; for example, a 16GB card holds 1:40 of video at 1080p 30fps. Optional battery pack doubles battery life.
Included: camera, 197’ waterproof housing, WiFi remote, remote charging cable, rechargeable 1050mAh Li-ion battery, QR buckle, J-hook buckle, 3-way pivot, 1 curved adhesive mount, 1 flat adhesive mount, assorted mounts and hardware, USB charging cable.
