Dual 2.4 USB Cigarette Lighter Charger
Suction Cup Mount for Stratus 2 (no cradle)

This suction cup makes it easy to mount Stratus out of the way on a side window. This location enhances the GPS and ADS-B reception of Stratus, and reduces the chance of overheating. Ideal for jets and other airplanes with heated windshields, or for airplanes that frequently park outside. External power and ADS-B cables can still be used in the mount.

Suction cup attaches to Stratus cradle with included screws (mount requires the cradle that is included with Stratus).

External ADS-B Antenna for Stratus Receiver

Improve ADS-B reception with this suction-cup mounted antenna. The Stratus™ relies on ground based ADS-B transmitters for data. If you intend to mount the Stratus in a location that obstructs its view of ground based towers, simply plug this antenna into the back of the unit and mount to a window. Includes a 5 ft cable, antenna and 2 suction cups for mounting. This antenna is for ADS-B only. It does not replace or supplement the GPS antenna in the Stratus.

    Stratus - Second Generation Case

Protect your investment with this custom-molded case for the second generation Stratus ADS-B receiver. Features a rigid exterior to protect it from impact and a full length zipper. Interior mesh pocket keeps charging cables organized. Great for storing Stratus – Second Generation in your larger flight bag.

External GPS Antenna for Stratus (second generation)

This antenna plugs into the side of Stratus 2. Allows you to mount Stratus 2 out of the way in your airplane yet still see the sky for GPS reception. Magnet keeps antenna from sliding around. Not compatible with Stratus 1. Measures 10 ft. long.

Dual USB Home Charger for iPad

This 110V plug provides two powered USB ports. Use your existing cables to charge most USB devices, including iPad, iPad mini, iPod, iPhone, Blackberry, cellular phones and more.

    Input: 100-240 Volts AC

USB to Micro USB Charging Cable (6 ft.)

This charging cable was specifically designed for the Stratus ADS-B receiver. Made to the highest specifications, this cable is much thicker than standard phone cables, and features a ferrite bead to reduce/remove interference. Measures 6 ft. long. Works with both first and second generation Stratus.

External ADS-B Antenna with 10 ft. Cable for Stratus

Accessory for Stratus ADS-B weather receiver. Includes antenna, suction cups, and 10' cable. Works with Stratus 1 and 2.

Stratus 2nd Generation Replacement Dash Mount
110V USB Power Plug (for Stratus)

Replacement plug provides 2.1 amps for charging Stratus. This is the same plug that is included in the package when purchasing a Stratus.

Suction Cups for ADS-B Antenna for Stratus

Accessory for Stratus ADS-B weather receiver. Includes two suction cups.

    ADS-B Antenna for Stratus

Accessory for Stratus ADS-B weather receiver. Cable sold separately.

10 ft. Replacement ADS-B cable for Stratus

Accessory for Stratus ADS-B weather receiver. Measure 10′ long.

    Subscription free weather
    Pros

The small form factor is good for tight spaces. The white case and cooling fan help keep the operating temperature in check. The device is readily picked up by the mobile device's WiFi network.

    Cons

The LED status lights can be a bit bright for night flying. This can be easily fixed by moving the Stratus to another location.

    General Comments

The Stratus is an excellent complement to Foreflight. It seamlessly works with the application and is reliable. The weather information can be detected at least at pattern altitude in my area.Sometimes on the ground if there is a tower close by.

The AHRS feature can be useful but can take up too much space on the tablet's screen(especially if it's a small device). The ADSB traffic is a nice bonus for now but would be more useful when more aircraft are equipped for it.

The enhanced GPS reception and the subscription free weather are the bright spots of this little white box!

    Sporty's Response

The LED status lights can also be dimmed inside of foreflight. Check out the device settings page.

Great product - may need external ADS-B antenna in certain aircraft
    Pros

Compact, easy to use, works out of the box. Just had to select the 'Stratus_xxx' SSID in the WiFi settings of the iPad and worked great.

    Cons

The ADS-B reception using the built-in antenna is good, but not great for the ground stations. I just flew from northern California to Las Vegas and had intermittent ground station reception - even when I was within line-of-sight and relatively close (say 30nm). Moving the device around the plane, for example trying both sides of the glare shield, and then using a suction cup to mount in the rear windows of my Cherokee Six gave different results. On the whole the unit works well - but I think I am going to invest in an external antenna for optimal ground station reception.

The included plastic mount's clip is slightly too short to snuggly grip the device - however, this does not seem to affect how well it holds the device.

If you have two devices connected, for example I had two iPads running ForeFlight, and one selects a dim LED brightness, and the other selects full LED brightness, the brighter of the two settings will prevail.

    General Comments

    Great product.
The traffic reception, even when flying in a non-ADS-B out plane, is still beneficial.

The weather is great - and is now replacing my XmWx subscription that I had used with a Garmin 496. It's taking a bit of getting used to finding a reporting station with the winds aloft - but I think that is more a user adaptation than a product issue!

    Pros

All functions work as advertised, including attitude indicator.

    Cons

Weather radar display resolution is cryptic, but certainly acceptable.

    General Comments

Works exactly as expected. Reception in my area is fine without an antenna. Battery life seems better than some previous reviewers stated. Charge time also very good. If placement in the sun is a problem and a side window is available, the suction cup works fine.

    Excellent Weather and Traffic info
    Pros

easy to use. no wires. very accurate weather information. Traffic is accurate. It is amazing how weather and traffic info has progressed. This devise replace what I used to have to pay big monthly fees to receive. The real beauty of the Stratus is how well it works with ForeFlight. It is incredible the real time information that is available. TRF's, Local ATIS and ASOS, real time radar weather, ground winds and much more.

    Cons

ADS-B traffic is mostly large commercial jets and in crowded class B airspace. The display shows a mass of aircraft that is largely irrelevant to General Aviation Aircraft. Does not work with Droid or other PC based tablets and as far as I know, only works with the ForeFlight Apt.

    General Comments

The Stratus works great with the Ipad and is seamless with the ForeFlight Apt. It would be great if this product worked with other operating systems (Droid or PC based tablets).

    Cross Country Essential Equipment!
    Pros

Substantial manufacturing. Love the internal cooling fan, not sure about battery life as I kept mine connected to external power after 3 hours of flight time (about 50% power remaining). Made my recent trip from Indiana to California much safer and more doable. On board weather updates are essential to safe flying around significant weather. You won't regret spending the money.

    Cons

Hard to part with the money, but worth it if you plan any cross Country flying with significant weather around. Need to be at sufficient altitude to receive ADS-B weather from various stations along the route. Be sure to note the last update time as lower altitudes can show drops of ADS-B.

Stratus Not Ready for Prime Time in SE
    Pros

Simple to use. Straight forward set up and connectivity to ForeFlight via Ipad2. Good battery life.

    Cons

Metar data unreliable. Radar and other WX data very spotty. Noting that getting WX information at the terminus of your route on an IFP is essential, Stratus+ADS/B is not a reliable source of Metar data during flight.

    General Comments

Well made and looks durable. I plan to return it and try a XM product.

Attractive and robust design. White colour not prone to over heating when on top of glare shield. Traffic very accurate. Recent trip from west coast to Chicago area - never once pulled a paper plate/map from the flight bag!

    Cons

METAR updating took longer than expected, but worked well never the less. I was surprised to find that it did not update Canadian METARS, etc. Is Nav Canada with holding this information, much like they wanted an outrageous amount of money for mapping?

    General Comments

I like it, although compared to other ADSB receivers, it seems a little pricey.

Arrived 1 day before planned long flight. First time used was on actual flight plan. Would have had to cancel all 3 legs of the flight without it because of thunderstorms across flight path. With Stratus it was easy to visualize storms in flight 1 hr after take-off and deviate around them. Great reception without external antenna.

Small, light weight, easy to hook up . . . everything you need to turn ForeFlight into a pull panel of modern instrumentation and overlay charting!!

ADS-B reception not solid out of the box. Buy the external antenna for an extra $50 . . . you won't regret it.

    So Far So GREAT
    Pros

Compact and works flawlessly with ForeFlight, what an incredible combination

Have used twice - GPS has been flawless and ADS-B has been great

Warm environments you will want to avoid placing under the glare screen

I have since purchased the Optional Suction Cup Mount and HIGHLY Recommend Such, it should just be a part of your initial purchase from the start

    Cons

    None

    General Comments

I rated Durability mid-level rather than Tops, as I have only used it twice.

However, it worked spectacular the other day, painting weather for FREE that I circumnavigated

I'd guess there are things that make XM 'better' for some reason, but for a $900 Entrance Cost and NO Operating Cost, for most pilots the Stratus II will most likely be a XM Cost Saver

Great Tool for extra Situational Awareness
    Pros

This is a great tool for situational awareness. I have owned it for about 8 months and have enjoyed being able to see what weather is ahead and around me. There is a bit of lag as should be expected (up to 15 minutes), but while flying around showers this week, it showed accurate representations of what I was seeing out the window. Traffic has drastically improved in the past few months. Flying over KATL this week there was a myriad of aircraft represented both on the ground and in the air around Hartsfield. It was helpful in identifying traffic enroute to Ohio from ATL as well. I really like that it will now record information for playback so that weather trends can be seen.

    Cons

The battery life is very diminished if you have it in the sun. I would strongly recommend having a charger connected when in use. Other users' comments that traffic can be spotty are correct. If you don't have ADS-B out from the aircraft, and no one else in your area does either, you will see less. That being said, I do get traffic even way out in the boonies, especially when there is airline traffic overhead. Around my home airport which lies under the KATL Class B, I get great coverage.
Another Con is that you are stuck with Apple products and Foreflight if you buy this option. If you decide you don't like them anymore, you have to buy a different weather/traffic tool.

    General Comments

Overall I would recommend this product to anyone who loves ForeFlight and needs a weather solution. It is subscription free and has been reliable for me. The only downside is if you decide you don't like Apple products anymore, you are stuck because this only works with ForeFlight. I have been very happy with ForeFlight and my iPads so it was a compromise I was willing to make.
