Makes and amazing cockpit resources available
    Pros

In combination with Foreflight this unit gives you amazing capability. The Ipad in conjunction with Stratus and Foreflight add new dimensions to the cockpit.

    Cons

Heat sensitive, you need to shield it from the sun. It must sit on top of the panel and is subject to overheating. Needs a shield or more air circulation. It also needs a 'tracking number' sort of like a phone or Ipad - mine was stolen or lost, I had to buy a 2nd unit.

    General Comments

Almost 40 years of flying and 5000 hours makes me realize just how terrific the threesome of Stratus, Foreflight, and Ipad really performs. Once you take the time to read the directions and capabilities of the three units in conjunction with each other you can be an expert.

The instructions that come in the box don't tell you enough, they should tell you how to link it all together and not to attempt to use it without some instruction or practice. Who reads directions ? But if you intend to use it as a primary resource, learn how to use it first.

    Wonderful cockpit aid
    Pros

    Easy set up and use

    Cons

Rubber base needs more substance to retain the unit in place in the base.

    General Comments

I am a ferry pilot flying all over the world and bought this as a backup to radar and hoped it would provide some traffic, etc. since Foreflight didn't work well with my other GPS device.

It turned out to be much more effective than I anticipated and the newly offered ADHRS and the traffic alerts really added a lot to the value.

It is pricey, but worth it when one considers the added safety and ease of use. The ADS-B radar only works in the US airspace, but traffic is covered everywhere and is a good backup.

    Pros

Very easy to use and set up. Provides good traffic information including 1090 traffic on our Caribbean trip. (My aircraft is equipped with an 'ES' ponder)

    Cons

Some more work is required on the ForeFlite display of traffic. The symbology is sometimes a little difficult to see unless the map is very expanded. Better 'vectors' with warnings would also be very useful.

A useful piece of equipment that enhances safety of flight.

    Pros

Durable, compact, and very easy to use. Product worked exactly how I would have expected. Standby horizon works well, sensitive enough to actually be used..

    Cons

    Expensive.

    General Comments

Simple and easy to use, literally just turn on and your connected. Works well on numerous ipads and iphones in the airplane at one time. The product comes with a usb connector to help keep the Stratus charged while flying. Shipping was incredibly fast and the product support is fantastic.

As a commercial pilot that flies multiple aircraft a week I was looking for a easy way to ensure I always have the tools I needed to keep my passengers and myself safe. Foreflight and stratus filled the bill with ease. At my home airport (Grove Ok KGMJ) I had some concerns about how much altitude I would need for the ADS-B to work. I was impressed to see two towers come online about 150ft AGL, and foreflight come alive with weather and traffic. One of the aircraft I fly has a G1000 with XM weather, often I'm 15 min into a flight before I get basic NEXRAD images and no traffic info. I was hesitant due to the price and concern over flights not in metro areas, but no more, the stratus is bargain!

    Pros

Easy to use right out of the box. Integration with Foreflight is excellent. Just finished trip from Houston TX to Roseburg OR and back - placed unit on glare shield and had multiple tower reception all the way, good wx info and more traffic information than I expected - traffic info I did receive was accurate and helped with visuals.

    Cons

From what I understand - all GA aircraft will be required to have ADS-B out in panels by 2020 which will provide panel traffic information and this could challenge the investment; however, pilots may still opt to use Stratus as more cost effective means for getting Wx info in addition to traffic.

    Great
    Pros

This product is very easy to use. You just turn it on and go, and I really like the built in AHRS. I have an iPad 4 with a Ram suction mount on the top of the windshield of my B19, a yoke mount for my iPhone, and really considering purchasing an iPad mini, and gizmo dock for the panel, so that I may be able to look at maps, plates, and also have the AHRS backup going at the same time. That's one of the things really cool about the Stratus is being able to link so many devices to its wifi. And The luxury of having real time weather and traffic in the cockpit at such a low price is incredible. For a person like me with a four place small aircraft it feels like having some of the more advanced systems at a low price.

    Pros

Easy to use with ForeFlight. Small size to mount anywhere. Easy to pickup at least one tower and traffic information at a relatively low altitude. Made in America.

    Cons

    Reliability. Battery life.

    General Comments

Battery life is marginal, about 5 to 6 hours. Stopped working after 4 flights. Called Sporty's and could not get it to reset. Sent back, hoping to get it exchanged before my next flight. But, it was after 30 days so they sent back to Appareo to be fixed. Not a bash on Sporty's, but for the price I would have thought they could have Appareo exchange it so that I can have it back as soon as possible. Being told it will take 3 weeks to a month to get back.

    Pros

Easy to use. Bought the suction mount and placed on the side window. Excellent ADS-B reception . The Horizon App is excellent. I don't understand the complaints voiced about portrait vs. landscape. Foreflight works fine either way. As soon as Foreflight is opened, it prompts to connect to Stratus. Access to Metars and Winds while in flight is great.

    Cons

The wall charger was defective, but quickly replaced. I was able to charge the unit with a USB cigarette plug adapter until the replacement wall charger arrives.

    General Comments

I am saving 30+ dollars a month on XM for my Garmin 396. I plan to sell the 396 which should bring 5-6 hundred dollars. The free weather will pay the difference in the first year.

The Horizon App is great backup in case of vacuum or gyro failure.
