Excellent solution to my 2002 172SP not having a cigarette lighter type cabin power outlet. I don't know why Cessna switched to an odd receptacle but this item solves the problem nicely.

    Cons

I haven't decided yet wether the cord on the unit is a plus or a minus. I presume it makes it easier to attach things but on the other hand it's something extra hanging in the cockpit.

    General Comments

This was the only item I found that performed the necessary adaptation so there wasn't anything else to choose from. Luckily it works fine.

I'm not sure what they mean by 'new Cessna's electrical system', but there's nowhere to hook this up to my 1998 C172R. The only hole on my panel is quite a bit smaller and though the POH makes vague mention of a power port (which is why I bought this cable), the connector I received is not going into that hole. Two avionics shops I talked with were clueless--I've got a call into Cessna and hope to hear something back in several days. A description better than 'new Cessna's electrical system' would be handy.

A must have for using my Garmin 696 in my 172SP. There is no cigarette lighter type outlet in the cockpit.

    Cons

The cord could be a little shorter just to reduce the wire clutter in the cockpit.

    General Comments

Maybe Garmin should engineer an power cable that plugs directly into the power outlet in the aircraft. This would alleviate the need for this adapter. But, for now it is a necessary accessory for my flying.

This keeps the peace in the family. My husband (I'm the pilot) likes to have his portable GPS to work with while we're flying. The charging cord keeps the battery charged. His GPS is a wonderful backup device in case of electrical problems. We can just unplug it and have a full battery charge.

    Cons

The unit provided with the Garmin 96 GPS came with no documentation or guidance as to its installation and use. The pins in the small end of the cable do not match any orfice on the Garmin 96 GPS unit, and the large, open round end has no apparent connector to the aircraft electrical bus.

    General Comments

This is not what I had expected. I thought I would receive a cable that would plug into the GPS at one end and be attached via a standard connector to a point behind the instrument panel. However, the cigarette lighter-to-GPS cable provided with the unit functioned as expected. My Cessna is not new, but a 35-year-old C150. It has no 12 volt cabin power outlet; and the big end of the cable does not appear to match anything on the GPS unit.
I cannot make a recommendation because I had no opportunity to use it.

Works great for plugging in the cigarette power cable provided with your unit.

    Cons

You may have to come up with some modification to the plug if you do not have a cessna outlet in the aircraft you fly.

    General Comments

A Needed item if you have the Cessna outlet in your aircraft. I do not, but I had the plug modified so that I can use it in the aircraft that I fly.

This is essential if you want to plug your portable GPS into a Cessna that doesn't have the right size socket.

    Cons

One more cord to clutter up the cockpit.

    General Comments

Buy a couple, in case you lose one. Especially if you're using a portable GPS to get your weather.
