I live 20 miles south of ATL. ATL mind you! The busiest airport in the WORLD. So far, I haven't been able to receive even one transmission on the approach freqs. Will keep trying, but am not impressed so far.

This was a birthday present for my husband. He loves the radio.

Reasonable Price

Fair Quality....seems at times that it has excess static but that may be due to radio transmissions (aircraft radios) themselves.

Just OK for the price. Wouldn't call it a tremendous value but adequate.

A very nice radio overall, but don't expect to just plug it in and get the performance you want.

The internal speaker tended to overdrive badly and squeal, and the rubber ducky antenna was not able to reliably pick up my local traffic. I purchased an external magnetic base antenna for the top of the hanger and plugged in computer speakers to the aux output and am now very pleased with the unit.

It gets very good reception, both FM radio and Aviation scanner, at least from where I am located.

In order to be able to intercept the aviation frequencies, it must be squelched enought to allow the scan. However, when you do that, the FM volumn reduces to the point you can't hear the radio any longer. To hear the FM radio properly, the squelch must be reduced which eliminates and stops any scanning of the aviation frequencies.

Over all I like the radio but it is either an FM receiver or an Aviation scanner, not both.

does its job - seems to have good battery life.

not very intuitive - have to read the manual several times to get it set up to do scanning with interrupt.
Wasn't clear that a charger came with it - I ordered a second one by mistake.

Great value for a hanger radio to receive AM, FM & Aviation Band.

This is my second Air-Scan. This new purchase seems to have a circuit flaw. With 120 VAC power cable connected and installed new batteries the display continuously shows BATT with blinking frequency after the power switch is turned off. The only way to turn this display off is to remove and reinstall the power cable.

I donated my first Air-Scan to our EAA Chapter for Young Eagles flights and all the parents and kids enjoy monitoring the tower operations. Also, the parents are able to anticipate the landing of the plane carrying their kids.

GOOD AM AND FM RADIO.

THE FIRST RADIO DID NOT WORK WELL AT ALL. (However, Sporty's replaced it with in just a few day.) IN PROGRAMING THE COMMUNICATIONS FREQUENCIES IT IS NOT USER FRIENDLY AT ALL ..... THIS COMES AT THE POINT OF CHANGING FROM ONE FREQUENCY TO ANOTHER.
THE RADIO COULD USE MORE FILTERING ALSO.

WOULD I RECOMMEND THE RADIO TO OTHERS. I AM NOT SURE. IT COULD BE USEFUL AT AN AIRPORT PERHAPS BUT SOMEWHAT LIMITED IN A HOME OR OFFICE.

Easy to tune with digital freq.

My office is exactly 5 miles from local tower controlled airport. Radio was unable to pick up tower, ground, approach control or AWOS freq. Occasional communication from airborn aircraft. Line of sight should not have been a problem unless office building blocked. I tried a longer scanner telescoping antenna, with no improved results.

AM and FM Freq. worked well, but Air Band didn't work as advertised.

The unit works fine and better than expected. I have had other combined VHF-AIR units and had a hard time locking onto air only without bleed over from normal radio stations. This unit has an air only frequency with great reception even with distances from airport or transmitter and has no radion station bleed over. It has good sound, well built body and battery life seems to be good.

The only problem I would see is it is a little heavy, on the good side it keeps it from tipping or blowing over in heavy wind.

This would be a great unit for any aviator or person interested in aviation and ATC.

AS ADVERTISED, SIMPLE PROGRAMMING & OPERATION.

It only picks up so far, which is kind of expected.

I love this scanner! I live on final for runway 31L/R for Dallas Love field, and I get to hear all of the action. I'm very impressed with how durable and compact this unit is. The sound is clear and the value is outstanding. Great Product!!

We absolutely love this radio. It has great reception and was very simple to program. Liked it so much we are ordering a second one....one for home and one for the hangar!

simple and easy to use

marginal reception of air-band frequencies

I bought this radio to improve on the performance of my handheld at home. It wasn't an improvement. Despite my proximity (1.5 miles) to the airport, I still have a hard time receiving ground and tower transmissions.

aviation interrupt function is great

had to use external antenna and i'm ON THE AIRPORT

also, the first unit i received had a malfunctioning display
good return/replacement policy of sporty's

I enjoyed using this radio. Reception with the provided antenne was very good. I installed an appropriately rated roof antenne and the range and clarity was significantly increased. The am/fm radio cutout was a great feature and was used extensively.

After a couple of months, the airband stopped working. AM/FM bands worked perfectly. After verifying it was not an antenne issue, I sent it back to Sporty's and they sent me a new one right away. It worked for about a year and then the Airband quit again. I don't know where the warranty paperwork is or when I bought it, so I have not followed up on having it repaired. I don't know if others have had this problem or not, so I have not spent the money on a new one.

I like the table top design. The sound is good and the scanning worked perfectly. It was easy to program and use. The AM/FM still workes great and ...when the airband was working, the airband override was very nice....on slow days you can listen to the AM/FM station, when ATC came on, the AM/FM cuts out and ATC is loud and clear....an excellent feature! One of these days I'll have the radio shop on the field take a look at it.......
I would be interested to know if others had this problem or did I get the only one?

Excellent product

Minor: radio volume quieter than Airband so Airband is loud when you have radio at proper volume. I don't use for radio so not really issue for me.
