Heavy Duty Fuel Tester Constructed of durable butyrate plastic, this fuel tester might be the last one you ever buy. Features a removable splash guard and a sturdy metal actuator pin. Fits all popular quick drain valves (including Piper) and includes a reversible (slotted/Phillips) screwdriver. Magnified viewing area allows for close inspection of contaminated fuel. Fuel Tester Strainer Return clean fuel to your tank using this unique strainer. Slip the strainer onto the top of the tester after fuel has been sampled. Pour the sample back into the tank while this unique filter screen removes water and contaminates. A great alternative to tossing sampled fuel onto the ground: a practice now discouraged by the EPA. Date - 9-11-2008 Pilot Rating - Commercial OverallDurability Reliability Value Usability Expected Recommended Yes | Much sturdier than the typical fuel tester, especially the steel rod for poking the quick-drains open. The plastic itself is much heavier and likely to last longer. Cons The add-on funnel will fly off the end if the tester is shaken to rid it of contaminants other than fuel, so it must be held onto. Fortunately the funnel is the same heavy plastic as the tester, so when it hits the tarmac, it just bounces. This is a much better (read: sturdier, more durable) fuel tester than the typical ones I've used for the last 35 years. |

Anti-splash collar included if you need it. Strainer cup is nice too. Thick plastic makes this good unless you really really abuse it. Has a small magnifying window in the side so you can see any sediment or water line better. ConsIt's a tiny bit higher prices than what I want it to be. General CommentsYou can't find a better replacement nor a better price unless you go with something disposable. It's only a few bucks, and you won't have to think about it again for a long time. |

Also, body and parts are much more durable and withstand use/abuse very well! ConsAttaching the spill guard onto the side track causes it not to fit in most flightbag sleeves designed for fuel testers. Not much of an issue as you really don't need the guard anyway, the design is adequate to keep the fuel in the tester while sampling on it's own! I have already had a couple plastic ones break. Not the kind of thing you want especially when it breaks inside the drain leaving the drain open and no good way to stop it. The splash guard is especially nice when testing the sump tanks on the Cesssna 182. Removing it and placing on the side is a nice feature so that it fits in the side pockets of the flight bag is great. The screwdriver end is quite sturdy as well. ConsI would not recommend the strainer for the Cessna high wings. Too many test ports to be climbing back up on the wing to pour back the sample. If you had one port and then opened the tanks for inspection to pour the sample back in, this is might be a great addition. But for mutiple samples, I am off to try the GATS jar. The magnifiying port at the bottom to spot water is quite small (even with 20/20 uncorrected) so I don't find it that useful, but I still look through it just in case.
