GATS Jar Fuel Tester (16 oz.)
This fuel tester allows you to put preflight fuel samples back into your airplane (a great alternative to tossing sampled fuel onto the ground: a practice now discouraged by the EPA). Sample and check your fuel as always. Then, as sampled fuel is returned to the tank, a unique, built-in screen separates solids and non-petroleum contaminants, so only clean, pure fuel is returned to the tank. Reversible sump actuator fits both pin and petcock actuators. Wide mouth collector helps protect hands and clothing. Resilient plastic construction makes the GATS Jar virtually indestructible with normal handling. |

ProsThe construction and materials used in the GATS jar are great. I've been using GATS jars for several years and have never had one break. The 16 oz. size is useful especially when sumping 13 locations on the aircraft. The size is also helpful if water is found in the tanks and must be sumped out (less trips back and forth from sumping and dumping fuel)
General CommentsI've dropped the GATS jar many times (not on purpose) throughout the years and it still works fine. Never had any part of it break or crack.

Works with both types of fuel sample sites (I use one for both my Cessna 172SP and a Diamond DA40). Fits into the aircrafts cup holders. ConsNone - would by nice if the top of the spout was funnel shaped and could be pushed up to the skin of the aircraft - if the wind is blowing hard, you get some spillage - but it's manageable. I also like the dual functions of the strainer for reintroducing fuel into your tanks and checking for jet fuel contamination of your avgas at the same time. |

The very first time that I used it after I received it, I found water on the right tank of a Warrior I was flying that day. The jar was large enough to allow me to drain all of the water out of the fuel tank before my flight. |

Don't overtighten the cap. I cracked the plastic cap on one because I either tightened it too tight or cross-threaded it. | Works as advertised! I have a Comanche that requires quite a large fuel sample from the mains, as they are drained one at a time through a single drain on the belly. (The tip tanks have their own individual sumps.) A big sample assures that you got the fuel from the line, the selector valve, and all the way up into the tank, too. Then, pouring the sample back into the tank is a snap. The fitting that comes with the GATS jar works on both types of fuel valves, no sweat. ConsNone yet. Haven't hadd it long enough to comment on durability or reliability, but it seems to be of good construction: sturdy, nothing flimsy about it.
