Since the fuel gauges in the cockpit are so unreliable, a dipstick is the only trustworthy way to determine fuel level. Wouldn't preflight a plane without one. |

My pre-flight showed the fuel was down several inches from the top. I used the fuel gauge and determined that I had 32 useable gallons left, plenty for a one hour flight. Very nice to know exactly how much fuel is on board. |
