Sporty's Flat Electronic E6B Flight Computer - Patent Pending Sporty
Rated 4.05882352941/5 based on 85 customer reviews
Product description: Click Here for Instruction Manual Our Electronic E6Bs are invaluable during flight training, and are approved for use on FAA exams. But these powerful Flight Computers are great for more than just student pilots. Their pilot-friendly design makes quick work of any navigational, weight and balance, or fuel problem and it also performs conventional arithmetic calculations. Whether it’s pre-flight or in the cockpit, our compact E6Bs are a helpful companion for any pilot. New functions! Both Electronic E6Bs now include three new features, so they’re even more useful than ever. All three are great in the cockpit, whether you’re a student pilot or an ATP. • Required Rate of Descent function is an invaluable VNAV tool. Enter current altitude and groundspeed, plus crossing altitude and your distance to the crossing fix and the E6B tells you your required rate of descent (in ft/min). You’ll make that crossing restriction every time! • Top of Descent function tells you how far out (in miles) to start your descent. Tell the E6B your groundspeed and current altitude, plus desired altitude and descent rate and you’ll know just when to start a smooth descent. • Specific Range function allows you to quickly find the most fuel-efficient cruising altitude. You can easily compare between two or three altitudes to determine whether the lower fuel burn at a higher altitude is worth the higher headwind. Great for conserving fuel or extending range. Easiest to use of any flight computer Four arrow keys for simple menu selection Performs 23 aviation functions and 14 standard aviation conversions Fast, accurate calculations Perfect for preflight and in-flight planning Prompts for information as needed Polarized screen reduces glare and LCD washout Clock page with Zulu, Home and Local time zones Approach timer counts up or down Five-year warranty Authorized for use on FAA, Canadian and German exams Includes pocket reference card, carrying case and instruction manual Measures 5 3/8"w x 8 1/4"l x 1/4"d. Screen Display 2 5/8"w x 2 7/8"h. Sporty's® Electronic E6B™ Flight Computer performs 23 aviation functions and 14 aviation conversions. It's pilot-friendly design makes quick work of any navigational, weight and balance, or fuel problem and it also performs conventional arithmetic calculations. The conversion function lets you go from nautical to statute, fahrenheit to celsius and 12 other common conversions at the touch of a button. Operates on two 3V Lithium batteries(not included) and includes instruction manual. Authorized for use during FAA, Canadian and German exams. Four arrow keys make selecting the proper function simple. The oversized, easy-to-read screen prompts you for the proper inputs as you work through a problem line by line. Information from previous computations is automatically retained for future use—no need to retype old data into new problems. Clock page permits simultaneous tracking of Zulu, Home and Local time zones. The advanced timer counts up or down and operates independently so you can perform other calculations while the timer is running. Upon reaching zero in the countdown mode, the timer begins flashing—a useful feature for missed approaches, switching tanks, etc. Turns off automatically after four minutes of non-use, yet the clock and timer continue to operate. The slimmest, trimmest, leanest, meanest flight computer you can buy. 5 3/8"w x 8 1/4"h x 1/4"d. That's right, a scant 1/4 inch thin! Over 200,000 satisfied customers know why Sporty's® Electronic E6B™ Flight Computer is the best! Sporty's® Electronic E6B™ has been the standard for flight computers for years. Its pilot-friendly design makes quick work of its 34 navigational, weight and balance, fuel functions not to mention the timer, clock and math capability. Your shirt pocket was never smarter than when the E6B was tucked inside. Now it's time to get that same power into your approach plate books and onto your clipboard. The new E6B-F lets you keep the power of flight management right on your clipboard or just inside your chart binders. The new larger screen (over 7 square inches!) is even easier to read than our original version. And the same simple navigation buttons let you move around the functions.

Easy to use and understand, great thin profile. Make sure you order the batteries, as they are not included in the product itself.

    Pros

Easy intuitive walk-through of the calculations I use as a pilot.

    Cons

Conversion feature require memorizing a list of prompts, which can be easily forgotten in a tense situation.

The user's manual could have examples of using the standard calculations, ie adding, while in the aviation function mode.

    General Comments

It was recommeded by my CFI, and I would still buy this unit.

Fits my knee board. Is protected by a notepad above and knee board below. Don't have problems with unintended on/off. Buy the batteries from Sporty's and save. I bought from Radio Shack and paid three times as much.

    Cons

    None encountered.

I paid for express shipping to get the Sporty's Flat Electronic E6B Computer to assist me with an FAA exam. The computer was delivered with no batteries which meant that I had to source some at the last minute. Given the price of the computer I found this disappointing. The fact that the computer was sold without batteries wasn't highlighted when I purchased it. Overall the computer does not offer value for money.

    Pros

Nice to have in your vfr kneeboard

    Cons

Can't believe that it does not come with batteries. Come on... You need to go and buy special CV2033 batteries before you can use this calculator. I am surprised that in this day and age a company would do that, specially at that price. Raise the price if you have to, but for god sake provide batteries.

    General Comments

This calculator is not as easy to use as an iphone app.

Battery slot can become "stuck" if batteries are installed upside down by accident. Shouldn't be THAT difficult to pull the battery tab out.

    Pros

The Size and shape is perfect. Very easy to use, once you get use to it.

    Cons

The unit is not built for durability.... It is not constructed well at all and is very flimsy. I expected the product to be made better and if that means more money, so be it.

    General Comments

Overall, I like the unit very much and it is easy to use. The way it has been manufactured, I will probably have to buy several over the years. One can only hope that they can improve upon this.

I have been using the E6B "fat version" for that past 15 years, and it still works fine, but I wanted a slimmer version so I bought this one. I fly in the jungle as a humanitarian pilot and have no problems with this equipment, it holds up and is durable.
