All three are great in the cockpit, whether you’re a student pilot or an ATP. • Required Rate of Descent function is an invaluable VNAV tool. Enter current altitude and groundspeed, plus crossing altitude and your distance to the crossing fix and the E6B tells you your required rate of descent (in ft/min). You’ll make that crossing restriction every time! • Top of Descent function tells you how far out (in miles) to start your descent. Tell the E6B your groundspeed and current altitude, plus desired altitude and descent rate and you’ll know just when to start a smooth descent. • Specific Range function allows you to quickly find the most fuel-efficient cruising altitude. You can easily compare between two or three altitudes to determine whether the lower fuel burn at a higher altitude is worth the higher headwind. Great for conserving fuel or extending range. Sporty's® Electronic E6B™ Flight Computer performs 23 aviation functions and 14 aviation conversions. It's pilot-friendly design makes quick work of any navigational, weight and balance, or fuel problem and it also performs conventional arithmetic calculations. The conversion function lets you go from nautical to statute, fahrenheit to celsius and 12 other common conversions at the touch of a button. Operates on two 3V Lithium batteries(not included) and includes instruction manual. Authorized for use during FAA, Canadian and German exams. Four arrow keys make selecting the proper function simple. The oversized, easy-to-read screen prompts you for the proper inputs as you work through a problem line by line. Information from previous computations is automatically retained for future use—no need to retype old data into new problems. Clock page permits simultaneous tracking of Zulu, Home and Local time zones. The advanced timer counts up or down and operates independently so you can perform other calculations while the timer is running. Upon reaching zero in the countdown mode, the timer begins flashing—a useful feature for missed approaches, switching tanks, etc. Turns off automatically after four minutes of non-use, yet the clock and timer continue to operate. If you carry a spiral ring kneeboard its nice to have ConsHUGE! if not using in a spiral binder then there is no reason to get this one. Batteries are NOT included. It takes flat button batteries so they are not common place in most convenience stores. Battery life is terrible. I have not found an auto-shut off but since it only runs on batteries you have to turn it on then off when done (as opposed to just turning it on and it shutting down by itself) I have to check on this though - maybe it does have auto-shut off..Either way the battery life is terrible and I would never trust it as my sole E6B so I always carry a plastic E6B with me General Commentslarge, over priced, menus and calculations need to be learned. short battery life. |

It's another one of those things that once you have it you don't know how you ever lived without it! The binder holes allow me to attached it to my Ultimate Kneeboard and have it handy during flight. ConsOnce you figure it out it's a breeze but there is a learning curve and reading the manual is required. Also, make SURE you order batteries as they do not come with the calculator. The reverse side had a legend of variables which was very good. The conversions were a joy and some of the calculations can be solved by just looking at the variables you are given and compare to the legend on the back of calculator. Cons The display was very dim, then went out (after one hours use) It cost $16 to return, so I am very dissapointed.
