ProsTeaches you HOW TO FLY, not just how to pass the written. Complete ground school in one place. Doesn't split written, oral, and practical exams into separate courses to grab more money. Goes into more depth on subjects like weather, airspace, and ATC than you need to just pass the tests. Collins' Air Facts series is a great bonus. Comes with three written guides: a complete training syllabus, a supplement to the DVDs, and the FAA Practical Test Standards.
ConsThe last DVD, on the checkride, is not specific enough about what maneuvers you need to perform and how. You'll need to rely on your CFI for that. Written supplement to the DVDs is thin. The included web-based test prep software is built with Flash and slow, with questions that are not as up to date as the ASA material. You basically learn by reading the correct answers to what you got wrong. Sporty's Study Buddy or ASA PrepWare is better.
General CommentsI got a 97% on my written, and I passed my checkride on the first try, so the product definitely lives up to its guarantee. (And if it doesn't, you can use the refund to pay for your make-up checkride.) The only written questions I missed were two new ones that weren't in any training guide. If you work with your CFI and follow the included syllabus, you'll save a lot of time and money. I found that the written test prep was better supplemented by ASA's test question book and the FAA's free handbooks, since the book that accompanies the DVDs is pretty thin. The Sporty's DVDs are definitely better than ASA's (which just review the written exam straight from their question book) or King's (which split the course into three money-grabbing products) or Gliem (glorified PowerPoint slides). I'm definitely ordering Sporty's Instrument course next.

I bought this course to 're-do' my ground school to finish my private pilot license that are started 10 years ago. It has met that purpose very well. The questions are relevant and to the point. ConsWhile the video tutorials are great, I would like to see some computer based training involved as well (not just DVD movie questions). Such as situational mini-simulations with what if scenarios built in. General CommentsThis is a great product that can help you get a good jump start on your private pilot license. Well worth the money when compared to how much you would be paying an instructor to teach you the same information; not to mention you can go back and review at any time. It is nice to be able to review flight technique and maneuvers before each flight lesson to get the most our of your time with the instructor. |

I was hoping to find a product that I could work on prior to starting training so when I started training I would get more out of the lessons. I had looked at this product but didn't understand all that it offered. I decided to go ahead and start training and my instructor suggested I purchase this program to help studying on my own. This product is great for that. The DVDs are the highest quality! The information is exactly the same as my instructor teaches, and he has never watched the videos. I would recommend this product to anyone interested in learning to fly. |

General Comments I received my commercial, instrument, multi-engine, and CFI ratings 30 years ago, and haven't flown as PIC for many years. However, I have recently begun flying again. Back then, we only had the classroom and books to learn the material from, so the Private Pilot Course DVD's are really an exciting way to learn, or re-learn this material. |

I participated in the courses with him for refresher and although the information was all there, I did not like the presentation, which was not always in a logical order, and was lite on the real details. There was generally insufficient problem solving work. I'm going back to King videos in the future. General CommentsI was very disappointed in the young eagles online course. The server was so slow, it could not be used for study purposes. I had to buy my grandson the videos. I work at home online for a the top telecommunications company in the world so I have a good broadband connection. |
