Purchase well made

All my books and headset as well as extra radio fit fine.
DVD's are great and augment the text, make actual flight time much more valuable from several aspects. Pre flight study helps to catch concepts quickly as well as prepare questions for your CFI . Makes inlfight communication with your instructor more valuable.

I would have rated this as excellent but some of the extras thrown in for the Deluxe package are adequate but not excellent in quality. < still very pleased with this purchase.

Phenomenal Kit

Phenomenal set of DVDs with a terrific flight gear bag. Maneuver guide, weather book, plotter, E6B and documentation is all self explanatory and easy to use right out of the box. Literally took the materials of the box, and started the course that same night it was delivered to my door step. A week later, I met with my CFI and was flying. I have not taken the FAA written, but feel almost ready – two weeks into it!
Overall, very happy and would recommend blindly to anyone interested. The bag alone justifies the Deluxe kit over the standard kit for most new student pilots in my humble opinion.

The fuel tester is typical, wish the sump version could have been included. Wish the deluxe flight bag was an option. Wish the FAA Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge was included at this price (required reading, but not included in the package – even though cited in the text as required reading). The price point is a shade high, but still competitive (ie vs King).

Better than Expected

- Kit is very comprehensive
- Videos are informative and entertaining
- Books are must-haves for students

- Binder is the cheapest 3 ring binder EVER. Had to immediately replace
- Fuel gauge is very cheap too. Won't stand up to any wear or tear.

The videos are great to watch and are pretty informative, too. The only problem with some of the lessons is that the chapter tests ask questions that weren't covered in the lesson. I'm not sure how the student is supposed to know the answers to those... Also, the test should be given BEFORE the lesson, and then after, too. Helps to reinforce whatever is being learned. More questions on the chapter tests, too.

I expected the bag to be a super cheap POC, but it actually turned out to be pretty decent. It holds all my stuff nicely, as well as headsets and GPS. Much better quality than some of the items that the kit came with. Specifically, the 3 ring binder. That thing was so cheap that the rings didn't close right, pages were falling out, and the binder itself was ripping! As much as this kit costs, you'd think they could spare the $2 bucks to upgrade the binder!

I really think, this is one of the best method for learning. And a great Kit for Student Pilots.

Price can be lowered a bit.

Ground School from the comfort of your couch!

The course is extremely easy to use! The bundle includes virtually everything you will need while you train as a student pilot and stuff you will use a lot even after you earn your certificate. Definitively a better option over the Non-Deluxe package.

I am extremely happy that I chose this DVD course! If you are like me, and you are not the read-a-lot-of-books type of student, this set is for you. Everything is explained in a way that makes sense! The hosts are TV-Ready personalities with very clear voice and diction and they are all real pilots with tons of experience! (I'd really love to meet these guys in person). There is a small 3-8 question quiz after each chapter to test what you've learned. Also, there's the option of taking all of the quizzes after you complete the DVD and it scores that test for you. That helped me determine wether I was ready for the next DVD or not. Finally, it comes with a code to study online at www.sportys.com/study where you have a bank of nearly 1,000 questions which you can use to study by chapter or take an FAA simulated test. After you finish yoru DVD's, and once you score 80% or more on 2 simulated tests, they automatically send you the required FAA endorsement, which is the point where I am at now. I am confident I will pass the FAA test, but I still want to wait until I score 90% or more in at least 2 test ;-) I hope my review helps, I purposely waited until after I finished the course to write it in order to give the details I expected to see in the reviews when I was first making the decision to buy it.

Great Value: Sporty's Deluxe Private Pilot Kit

Overall the product was excellent. Unlike some of the previous reviewers I found the gear bag to be of very good quality. Additionally, a previous reviewer complained about the orientation of the strap. I believe the reviewer has not used many bags of this type, the strap orientation is correct and necessary for the stability of the bag when being carried over the shoulder.

The fuel tester was a bit of a disappointment. I have yet to contact sportys, but the unit I received had a pin which will not sit properly in the tester (the pin slides completely down into the tester).

The bag could be a little bigger, if the inside dimension was 2 inches longer the materials would fit a bit better. The headset compartment could be a little bigger as well, and if the compartment was armored it would be a big improvement. (That being said I am very happy with what I got for the price and have no plans to replace the bag)

I prefer a standard E6B to an electronic E6B, especially for in flight use. I find the standard E6B easier to operate with one hand while I keep one hand on the controls... The electric E6B is great for while on the ground.

Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase. I did buy a standard metal E6B in addition to the kit, and I may upgrade the fuel tester, but the kit certainly contains everything a starting pilot needs (aside from a headset).

Bought this course to help me pass the written and get started because My scheadule doesn't allow a class type setting. Instructor wanted me to pass the written before starting lessons. Passed in the high 90s So I would say it works so far. IF somthing goes south I will post another review.

Content appears to cover all the need to know items. Wait until you get your sylabus from your Instructor before you dive into everything. The bag is good construction and looks solid. Expect it to last for sometime. Love the DVD's. Recommend getting them. You may not always have access to the web to view so get the DVD option.

The bag could be larger. All the materials do not fit easily into this size bag, expecially if you want to carry some personal items along with you in flight. I can't see a headset in the side pocket. It looks like it would be a tight fit with the rest of the bag filled up.

My comments are based on my experience so far and may vary from others. I have 2.2 flight time so far and I am using what my Instructor tells me too. I will more than likely opt for a larger bag to carry my flashlights, jacket extra headset etc.
