I ordered the ICOM because I'm not traveling without a portable, and I knew Sporty's would deliver it before I left. Would never have been able to get the SP-200 fixed. I mostly use the portable to listen to ATIS before engine start and have never had to use it in an actualy emergency, but I take emergency planning seriously. ConsUsed it with the pigtail for the headset for the first time because the com radio was removed from my aircraft for service. The unit would not broadcast the headset mic, but would work if I raised the unit to my mouth and spoke directly into it with the headset attached. As a result, I nearly collided with a Cirrus turning base 50 feet above me, who obviously did not hear my position reports. Compounding the confusion was his erroneous reporting of his initial position. General CommentsI am returning this to Sporty's for repair or replacement. |

| I am a repeat ICOM customer, I hope this one will last as long as the first. Unit was shipped out as requested and arrived in good condition. Transmit and receive have been fine so far, have only used it once to date. ConsBattery attachment mechanism was a little stiff but locked it in securely with a little extra push. General CommentsIt is kind of silly to ask for a durability and reliability rating for a product that has just arrived. |

I had one of these radios before but allowed it to become road kill by leaving it on the bumper of my truck and driving off. ConsHave not been able to really use the NAV part of this or for that fact any radio in the ariplane. If you are alone you have to many things other to do that hold a radio up so you can track a VOR. If they were to make some type of device that would hold the radio that would maake this part of the radio more useable. General CommentsThis is my second review today and find after you hit the"Submit Review" button you get no indication that your efforts have been sent. If you get this note it would be good to know your efforts were not for nothing. |

| Large display, loud audio, good audio quality, sturdy construction, headset adapter included, good instructions, intuitive. ConsLoose fitting battery, somewhat masked when HT is in its vinyl case, but still it does not appear as if the battey and radio chassis mate properly. Nonetheless, the loose fitting battery does not appear to affect the operation of the radio, as the contacts maintain good pressure. General CommentsI have not owned the radio long enough to comment on durability or reliability, but I believe from what I have seen so far it is exactly what I expected and good value for money. As a ham radio operator I have owned ICOM products for over 25 years and know them to produce good gear. |
