ConsFound text to be very dry, as expected from a gov't publication! I would recommend "The Student's Flight Manual" by Kershner as better reading. This book is almost too thorough on some subjects, where Kershner tells you all you need to know, plus additional tidbits with practical use. General CommentsGood book to have on the shelf as a reference, but not so great if studying is supposed to be enjoyable...which I think it should be if it's a subject that interests you! |

I was going to print out the PDF available from the FAA's website, but it costs less to get it from Sporty's. It's full color and printed well, and there's no substitute for having the book in front of you. I wish I had bought this when I first started learning to fly. Very helpful for understanding the aircraft and all aspects of flying ConsSometimes concepts are hard to follow (ie Bernoulli's principle). I am a college grad w/a science degree so I've had this in physics, but I didn't follow the write up very well in the book (could be I've not seen it in 25 years too). Some charts are difficult to understand. General CommentsAll in all I would recommend this book to anyone interested in flying. This book with my instructors insight has been a fantastic learning tool. |
