    Active Noise Reduction (ANR)

    Active Noise Reduction (ANR)

Active Noise Reduction is a system of tiny microphones and speakers that listens to the ambient noise and electronically reduces it in the headset. ANR is particularly effective at cancelling low frequency noise (like engine noise,) and allows the headset to be both quieter and smaller than passive headsets. ANR headsets do require a power source, either battery or panel.

I asked several pilots and the FBO avionics chief. Nobody had anything bad to say about DC headsets. I like the feel and fit. My instructor was impressed by them. I am happy to have made this investment in my flying experience.

    The Student Pilot's Choice.
    Pros

Lightweight but do not fear, the H10-13.4 feels very sturdy and well 'put together'. Extremely comfortable gel ear-cups prove to remove the numbness and prolong aching lower-quality headsets cause. Microphone is there but not to the point where it is a distraction/eye sore. Very clear and crisp noise quality and reduction.

    Cons

Cessna 172 pilots may find a little trouble plugging the headset into the radio inputs, at least for those aircraft configured with the jacks off-set below the window. Just be gentle, but also forceful. It may not appear that the connections want to meet, but apply small force and the headset inputs will plug into the jacks as they should. Other than that small 'con', you are ready to fly!

    General Comments

One of my biggest challenges when I started to fly was not allowing myself to be preoccupied fidgeting with my mic-boom on my headset, making sure it touches my mouth, and that the mic picks up every word I say and others can hear me. With the H10-13.4 headset from David Clark, I don't have to worry about my transmissions being incomplete or my general conversations with my flight instructor being muted due to the poor mic reception. I fix the boom where I want it, it stays, and I don't need to touch it again. It fits in my flight bag without any problems, works well, feels good, looks great, and didn't hurt the wallet. Buy while you can at the amazing discount that is being offered! Would not go with any other brand. You won't be disappointed.

    General Comments

I rent when I fly so I'm rarely in the air more than two hours and was looking for an economic headset with good performance. I stuck with a David Clark Headset as the headset it is replacing is a David Clark headset that I bought in 1992. So 22 years later the headset is still working great, just bought a new headset as I'm taking more people flying with me and wanted to avoid having to grab a cheap used headset from the flight school every time I took a passenger up with me.

    Great basic headset
    Pros

Cheap cheap cheap! I used to use a Lightspeed thirty 3g that I had purchased used. While ANR was nice it was a pain to keep the batteries fresh, and the isolation without ANR was poor. These have great isolation and are fairly comfortable, at least on flights of 2 hours or less. I do like the microphone boom compared to the more 'mechanical' DC headsets I'm so used to seeing. They seem more reliable, less bulky, and easier to use. They seem to seal well, even over sunglasses for my prescription eyeglasses - not something I expected. Isolation is good on these.

    Cons

They're heavier than a more expensive headset. But, you really have to spend at least three times what you pay for these in order to get a lighter, quality headset.

    General Comments

DC is a go-to for the aviation community. I'd take their reputation over saving $50 any day of the week. Just knowing their customer service and warranty are there is enough for me to stick with them for sub-$500 headsets.

    excellent value in non-noise-cancelling headset
    Pros

    excellent passive noise reduction
    comfortable

    Cons

    none

    General Comments

This is my first headset after the usual series of FBO headsets early in training. (My CFI let me try his Bose A20 once as well.) I wanted to start with a quality non-noise-cancelling headset, and these came highly recommended. Superb cockpit noise reduction for a passive headset. Mic is appropriately sensitive while blocking noise (cabin vent air blasts notwithstanding). I'd recommend this set to anyone as a first or replacement headset. If I upgrade to an active pair, I'll feel good about using these for passengers based on their performance and comfort.

Recently, I purchased this particular headset model for my son. They replaced an older upgraded David Clark headset (given to my him by a friend) in need of minor repair. My son loves them...one, because they're easy to use and two, they fit comfortably! Definitely worth the investment for student pilots.

I haven't had this headset long and haven't worn it for much more than an hour at a time, but I have found it to be much clearer and more comfortable to wear than the headset the flight school provided.

    Great Headset
    Pros

Everything. Gel ear seals are extremely comfortable, the volume control detents make it virtually impossible to accidentally raise or lower the volume.

    Cons

    None that I have found

    General Comments

This is the second David Clark headset that I have owned. My other is a military helicopter headset and still use it in helicopters.
I ordered this one for flying airplanes and so far I enjoy this one as much as my other. The place I have been flying has many different headsets that I used and I came back to David Clark. Great quality, very well made and durable.
