    Active Noise Reduction (ANR)

    Active Noise Reduction (ANR)

Active Noise Reduction is a system of tiny microphones and speakers that listens to the ambient noise and electronically reduces it in the headset. ANR is particularly effective at cancelling low frequency noise (like engine noise,) and allows the headset to be both quieter and smaller than passive headsets. ANR headsets do require a power source, either battery or panel.

    Lousy product, SUPERB Customer Service!!!
    Pros

    Comfortable

    Cons

Passive noise reduction not as good as some 'cheap' headsets. Aux and cell input cut in and out and were unreliable. Very bulky headset.

I am actually glad that I found this product to be lacking, because it gave me the chance to see how awesome Sporty's customer service is! Sporty's has the best return service of any company I've ever dealt with. I spent the extra money for the Lightspeed Sierra and am thoroughly impressed.

    Great value
    Pros

Extremely great quality. Tremendous value at this price point.

    Cons

The comfort comes with a little bulk. Only would have liked to see a bluetooth option but not really a big deal.

    General Comments

A very nice headset for pilot or passenger. If you are just starting out I would say this is well worth the cash and for many would be the last headset they would need. I bought for passengers that complained of discomfort wearing my old ASAs. If these were available when I started flying I would never have had those old ASA's. I also own the S1 ANR version and have been very happy with them. Only difference between the two is price, bluetooth, and ANR of course.
Again just a great value for any pilot.

    Sennheiser S1 Passive
    Pros

Easily adjusts-it slipped on to give a perfect fit straight out of the box. I didn't even have to think about it. Pretty slick. Very light weight. Earcups accommodate eyeglasses comfortably. Noise suppression is satisfactory.

    Cons

It's difficult to find a negative. I'd prefer a somewhat longer mike boom, but I found that the mike picked up flawlessly, as is.

    General Comments

I've not had it long enough to rate durability, really, so that part of my review can be discounted. It does strike me as being very sturdy and well-constructed, though. I'm completely satisfied with this headset.

    Clarity. Comfort. Quiet.
    Pros

Incredibly comfortable and light weight. Adjustable pressure band is ingenuous given the variation of head sizes. Fit and finish comparable with Bose and Lightspeed Zulu. Impeccable clarity and noise isolation.

    Cons

    Unknown durability.

    Sennheiser S1 Passive Headset
    Pros

    1. Super comfortable: I forgot I had it on after doing so many steep turns.
    2. Passive noise attenuation: Works.

Everything on this headset works just fine. A simple way to explain how it works. When we drive down in the highway at 75 MPH there is always a SHH noise which is the wind noise. The Sennheiser S1 Passive changes the SHH noise to a Passive FFFF noise. Now, do not get it confused with ANR because ANR Headsets really cancel out noise.

I recommend this Headset to people who flies jet airplanes, but if you are flying propeller airplanes an ANR headset will really make the difference.
