B-25 Mitchell “Doolittle” Model

The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was followed by months of further defeats as one base after another in the Pacific was overcome by enemy forces. President Roosevelt was determined to strike back at the heart of Japan for the surprise attack. His order was carried out on April 18, 1942 when Jimmy Doolittle led sixteen B-25 Mitchell bombers off the deck of the aircraft carrier Hornet and bombed five Japanese cities including Tokyo. The daring Tokyo Raid boosted morale on the home front and proved that the U.S. was capable of retaliation. This handcrafted mahogany aerosculpture is a replica of the B-25 flown by Doolittle. The mini nose art panel on the base is hand numbered and has been personally signed by 2nd Lt. Richard E. Cole (Doolittle’s Co-Pilot) and 2nd Lt. Thomas C. Griffin (Navigator on Plane #9). Includes a Certificate of Authenticity with matching number. Measures 13.5” in length with a 16.5” wingspan.
