Near ideal preflight/cockpit flashlight
Pros
Great all around flashlight for use in preflight and cockpit operations at night, especially with two levels of red light. Built like a tank and has great battery life with the LEDs.
Cons
Maybe slightly large and I wish there was a rechargeable version of this flashlight available.
General Comments
These are awesome little flashlights to use on preflight inspections as well as cockpit operations at night and are not excessive in capability. I've previously used a Blackhawk Gladius and similar tactical flashlights with the high power (120+ Lumens) light output and they're really too powerful for this job; that level of light will destroy your night vision in a flash and you really don't need that much power for doing a competent night preflight. Unscrewing the tailcap on the S&W Captains flashlight reveals a removable cradle for three AAA batteries. This could make battery changeout difficult if you're doing so in a dark cockpit at night. I recommend S&W redesign the cradle to provide a tactile feel for correct polarity when inserting the batteries. Fortunately, even with AAA power this flashlight can really last and fears about power exhaustion is unwarranted, especially as I carry a spare Captain's Flashlight in my flight bag as well. The 2 levels of red light output are great but I wish that S&W had shaped the white and red switches different from each other so you can differentiate between them by touch; push the wrong one and there goes your night vision for a few minutes. Physically this is a tough flashlight. Machined from AL alloy and sealed with O rights and a shock and scratch resistant lens, this flashlight can really take abuse. Knock it off the high wing of your Cessna, drop it in water, or subject it to years of abuse on night flights, this torch will still light up at the push of a button. I particularly like the fact that Smith &Wesson made the tailcap octagonal shaped, making it easy to set the flashlight on the nose or wings of an airplane without worrying about it rolling off. The included nylon carry case is nice and I store my Captains Flashlight in this case right next to my Icom AC-24 transceiver during night VFR and IFR operations.
Some suggestions for making this great product superb: slightly reduce the size of the unit, design it with an internal battery that's rechargeable, and use different shaped buttons for red/ white lights or move one to the tailcap.

General Comments
Well, I HAD to come up with a con ... but this light is well worth the money. I've dropped it multiple times with no effect. I owned it for over a year and am still using the batteries that were sent with it.
Everyone is looking for a something that is actually worth the money it costs to buy it. This light is that unit. It is well made, provides plenty of light, both white and red and is very scotch with the batteries. Nice light in a very nice and also well made case.

Good Flashlight, but could be better
Pros
Solid, durable flashlight. The option to run with one or three red LED's to offer variable nighttime brightness is very handy.
Cons
The white 10 white LED's aren't as bright as one would expect, especially when compared to a Maglite Mini, which only has one LED but is almost as bright.

Pros
Good size and bright enough for anything you need in the cockpit or during pre-flight. Not sorry I made the purchase.
Cons
No place to hook a lanyard and I am always turning on the red light when I need the white light and turning on the white light when I need the red light.

Where's the lanyard hook eye??
Pros
Bright light and the red light button is separate from the white light button; no chance of accidentally blinding myself with the bright one while flying.
Cons
There's no easy place to hook on a lanyard so it can sit around your neck while flying. You have to hang on to it.
Excellent flashlight, great for preflight and planning
Cons
little too big to use inside the cockpit
General Comments
I would buy it again

Pros
An excellent accessory for my aircraft. A regular flashlight is sometimes not working correctly and needs to be jostled a bit to get a good contact.
This light however, works perfect, every time, all of the time.
Nice product
Cons
None that I can see at this point.
