Nick-named the “Blackbird”, a defensive feature of the aircraft was its high speed and operating altitude, whereby, if a surface-to-air missile launch were detected, standard evasive action was simply to accelerate. The SR-71 line was active from 1964 to 1998, and of the 32 SR-71s placed in service, none were lost to enemy action. This museum-quality aerosculpture is hand-carved of mahogany in exacting detail. The SR-71 has a wingspan of 10.5”and is 20.5” long. Mahogany base with gleaming stainless steel arm.
