For normal use, we recommend using the SP-200 with 8 AA batteries and the included alkaline battery case. Each set of 8 batteries lasts up to 15 hours. Use this spare alkaline battery case to “quick change” to a fresh set of batteries and you’ll get another 15 hours. Includes rubber terminal cover to protect case from corrosion when not in use. JD-200 no longer manufactured.

I left some batteries in my original battery case, they corroded, and I bought this as a replacement. I was concerned with some of the reviewers who had problems with the screw connectivity. Although the screws are smaller than the originals, the case works fine. I'm glad I bought it.

Best to have a battery back-up in your flight bag if you use the radio routinely; like this option over rechargeable options; you can always buy AA batteries, but you don't always have time to find a plug and charge

Although the SP 200 has good battery life, one of these full of fresh batteries is a good idea to have as a back-up if you envision using the radio in an emergency in case your plane's primary radio fails.

I seems like airplanes run on money and flight bags run on AA batteries, so get some that recharge!
