I own (and love) a Garmin aircraft GPS, auto GPS, and golf watch, so I really wanted the D2 Bravo Titanium to be all that it was advertised. Sadly, it is not.
* Setup was nowhere near intuitive.
* The watch is physically huge - 2 inches in diameter, and so thick it would never fit under a dress shirt.
* It wouldn't do anything correctly until I went outdoors to get a GPS lock, and I could only get a lock if I it was exposed to the sky. Even in my car, it would lose lock.
* It displayed the wrong date and time - "calendar" must be on to get the correct date.
* The compass reads +/- 30 degrees in the car.
* Windows wouldn't recognize the device when plugged in to my less-than-two-year-old computer, so I couldn't upload a flight plan. Then I learned I couldn't upload a flight plan from Windows anyway.
* It will only navigate to an airport, not to an intersection.
* Many of the advertised features are only functional if you have it Bluetooth connected to a smartphone or tablet that is actually doing the work - it's just acting as a remote display device, but the manual doesn't say which ones.
* Some widgets are not visible by default, but the manual doesn't say which ones.
* All the buttons are labeled in English on the bezel, but he manual constantly refers to symbols on the button heads, which are virtually illegible while in use.
* The majority of the manual explains how to use the sports and fitness features, almost as though the aviation feature was an afterthought.

In short, I had hoped that it would be an emergency backup navigational device, and it is not. Garmin needs to make a watch that can be such a backup, and leave out all the frills. If my panel goes dark, I know my heart rate will be up - I don't need my watch to tell me - I DO need my watch to help me navigate on its own. I so hoped for better from Garmin - thanks to Sporty's for their return policy.

Capable but display is BIG and dimmer than shown

Display is not nearly as bright as shown in the ads. It is also a very big watch but light for its size. If you have great cockpit electronics it is probably not a huge pickup but would be good if still flying with steam gauges

Keeps getting better!

- [ ] I posted a very positive review about the D2 Bravo a year ago. After seeing the upgrades with the Titanium I had to purchase it immediately when I noticed it in one of my Sporty's emails. The email marketing is clearly effective. My only two long term complaints of the standard D2 Bravo concerned my desire for a metal band and the requirement to purchase a separate device in order to have a heart rate monitor. The Sporty's hassle free return policy is really nice. Trust me, it works as I returned the original D2 watch a couple years ago because I wanted to wait for something a little more refined. The titanium version is a huge upgrade from the Bravo. First, they managed to get much better performance from the already incredible battery life. The bravo would easily go all day while in Bluetooth mode connected to my iPhone but definitely needed a nightly charge to make it thru the next day. If it wasn't in Bluetooth it would run several days in a single charge. The titanium seems to be getting the increased performance as if the Bluetooth was turned off with the D2 Bravo. The metal band isn't the highest quality like a Rolex but more inline with an Invicta or Seiko with pins in the band for link adjustment. However, it feels really nice on the wrist and has a modern quick latching mechanism. The band is a clear improvement to the rubber and leather bands found in the D2 Bravo. I also found some improvements with the Bluetooth connectivity and ability to quickly connect. My D2 bravo would not communicate with phone without the Garmin Connect Ap open which is now not the case. Another wonderful feature if you fly regularly is the new printing on the dial and coordinated ZULU time hand. This is great for calling in those weather briefings and not having to calculate the time. The dark look of the case and watch are also very attractive and I feel this watch could be worn a little more easily with a suit. In conclusion, it's an amazing improvement from the Bravo. In fact, almost enough of an improvement to call it the Charlie. My only negative is still the screen brightness but it is completely fine. I can read it in many different lighting conditions and imagine this is where the power savings come from. I am extremely happy with the upgrade and my old Bravo is being sold on an online auction site as I write this review. I won't plug the auction site because they became greedy and stopped looking out for their clients. Lol

Simply nailed it

I've used them all, Apple Watch, Samsung gear s2, etc this is as complete a package as possible. Just great integration in an all I one device. Battery life is out of this world and I use all the functionality daily. Heart rate, gps, workouts. Great customization for your workouts etc. some items coming is integration with Garmin pilot and some simple things like you can't save fav metates etc, you have to input or rely on closest. Small complaints for an otherwise awesome device. One word of caution the titanium bracket that comes with it needs to be taken to a jeweler to get fit right, out of the box its way to large for anyone and needs to have some links taken out and cannot be done by user.

Does it have world time?
Ray W on Jul 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes. I have it show both local and Zulu.
What is the difference between the titanium version and the non titanium version other than the band?
Dominic on Oct 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Battery life is shorter on the Titanium version.
Has anyone done any running or swimming with the titanium's metal bracelet? Is it me or would it be totally uncomfortable for sport workouts and so would necessarily have to opt for the rubber strap? Thanks for letting me know.
A shopper on Aug 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I tried this watch as a daily wear, swimming and running. I found that while the titanium band is lighter than the stainless counterpart in other Fenix watch models, the band is relatively sharp on the edges and to get the fit right for using the heart sensor it can be uncomfortable. I found that when my wrist was wet, the watch still wanted to slide around a little. If you were going to do a lot of swimming and running, I would leave the silicone band on most of the time and only use the titanium when I dress up. (Which is sad as the titanium band looks really good) Had a lot of compliments and while the D2 Bravo/Fenix does most of what I wanted it to do, it didn't do all of it well enough. It is probably the best smart watch/gps/activity watch combo out there, but at the given price tag I opted to return it and wait longer for the technology to come a little further.
Is screen brightness OK in various light conditions? I want to use it for running and golf as well as flying.
Bruce B on Jul 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The screen is actually designed for outside lighting conditions. It works great during the day in direct sunlight. That being said, the screen is not as clear when out of direct sunlight (i.e. inside your house or at night). In those types of situations the back light works great.
Do you provide a European airport database?
Jojojo on Dec 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It has all airports in the world. For example EBBL (Belgium) shows 3652.8 nm from my location. Checked with SkyVector. Spot on.
Is there a fee to update the AIRAC for aviation or download courses for golf?
Bruce B on Jul 18, 2016
I am not sure about golf courses as I am not a golfer. But they do charge a $25 fee for airport data base updates that support the nearest and direct-to functions of the watch.
Having said that, the D2 titanium is awesome, my favorite feature is the automatic detection when you are climbing above 500ft/minute the fly function activates automatically recording speed, altitude, course and you can even see your trip on map, all without touching the watch before takeoff.
Hope this helps.
Can one trade in the first to get the Titanium version and if so how much is the difference?
A shopper on Aug 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm not aware of any trade-in program for the watches.
