Now with Digital Display and Satellite Messaging

Self-buoyant design is waterproof and floats

A Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) is an essential item for any survival kit. By utilizing a built in GPS coupled with a 406 MHz transmitter, these beacons are able to alert search and rescue teams around the world of your location within minutes of activation. In an emergency, they could quite simply save your life.

With three levels of integrated signal technology—a high sensitivity, 66-channel GPS, a powerful 406 MHz signal and 121.5 MHz homing capability—the SARLink View quickly and accurately relays your position to a worldwide network of Search and Rescue satellites, reducing search time and increasing your chances of survival. Integrated LED strobe light increases your visibility to rescuers.

You can also send "I'm OK" messages with GPS coordinates to your friends and family. Great for checking in when you don't have cell phone coverage, and allows your position to be shown on a map (yearly subscription required).

New digital display allows you to monitor all the beacon’s operational activities. The screen displays GPS LAT/LON, operating instructions, usage tips, transmission burst as well as battery power. The digital display also makes self-testing your beacon simple and easy to understand by visually walking you through the self test, step by step.

Built-in GPS acquisition test mode allows you to test GPS functionality up to 60 times over the life of the battery.

Features:

  • Nearly instant alerting of Search and Rescue forces
  • Transmits distress signal with personal identifier code and GPS location.
  • Rescuers know who you are and where you are, within 100 meters
  • Dramatically reduced search time compared to traditional ELTs
  • Unaffected by terrain, obstructions or weather
  • Works anywhere in the world
  • Waterproof and floating construction

Simple two stage activation: 1) Deploy antenna 2) Press the “On” button.

Waterproof construction with a shatter-proof polycarbonate case.

Measures 2 1/4”w x 1 1/4”d x 6”l and weighs 8.9 oz. 5 year warranty. Made in the USA.

Pros: The I'm OK message that can be sent to family when on a long flight, ease of use. Knowing that help will be on the way when activated. Cons: None that I can think of. I hope that I nevwer have to actually use this product but I know that if I do, it won't let me down.

Pros: Slightly smaller than the picture would suggest. Seems pretty durable like it could be tossed around a few times and still work. Simple operation and display shows you what's going on. Unlike Spot Messenger, you can call for help without any subscription fees. Also uses a more reliable system than Spot. Cons: The 406link messaging service is kind of a clever hack- it just listens for the 'self test' messages from the PLB and acts when it hears them. Might be good for telling people you're still alive if you're going hiking in the wilderness. But because it uses the 'self test' function of the PLB every time you use it it wears down the PLB battery a bit, and after a certain number of self tests you need to mail the PLB back for a battery replacement. I've never had to use my PLB other than testing it. Hopefully I never will. But a PLB is always a better choice than Spot Messenger for calling for help- the high-power 406MHz transmitter is a lot more reliable than Spot's 1600MHz low-power transmitter and no subscription is required to get emergency help. If you go down in the sticks, you'll be glad you had this.

In case of requiring battery replacement, do you sell the spare battery, or does it require that it be only changed by you?
Maximo on Aug 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: According to my Aqualink View, the battery needs to be replaced 6 years from manufacture date
or 5 years from service activation. If you use your PLB, tell ACR and they will send you a new one.
Regarding batter replacement, here is the owner's manual statement:
"The battery should be replaced if the beacon has been activated
for any use other than the Self-test. Always refer battery replacements
and other beacon service to a factory authorized Battery Replacement
Center. Battery replacement includes servicing the beacon by
replacing all o-rings, testing the water seal and the electrical properties.
NOTE: There are no user serviceable items inside the beacon.
DO NOT OPEN THE BEACON. Opening the beacon will void the warranty.

This beacon contains two (2) lithium metal battery packs that are less than 2
