Combination avionics power supply and battery maintainer

This newest BatteryMINDer is not just a charger/maintainer like its little brother, it’s also a complete 28 volt @25 amp power supply. Ideal for running glass panel avionics continuously without draining the battery, but also for keeping your battery charged and maintained year round. You can leave it plugged in and know that your battery will always be in optimum condition.

Features:

  • Easily powers all your avionics (including glass cockpits) without draining the battery--perfect for training
  • Capable of recharging a "flat," fully discharged, 30 AH battery in as little as one hour
  • Maintains and conditions your battery as it charges to prevent sulfation
  • Incredibly easy operation—just plug in and use, with no settings to fuss with
  • Automatic input voltage selection allows the unit to be used worldwide, automatically adapting to any country's voltage system (100-240V AC; 50/60 Hz)
  • Large backlit LCD display clearly shows operational status
  • Numerous safety features to prevent overcharging or shorts

Weighs less than 8 lbs., so it can be taken with you in the airplane; includes built-in cord storage. Measures 9 1/2”l x 8 1/2”w x 3 7/8”h. Includes 14' cord with Cessna-style GPU plug. For use with wet (flooded) or sealed AGM Concorde or Gill batteries, except Gill LT (7000 series). Not to be used with Odyssey, Hawker or any Nicad battery.

Light Plane Maintenance magazine's top pick:

  • "...a paradigm shift in battery charging"
  • "This is a ground-breaking design with terrific capabilities that should easily double the effective life of your 24-volt batteries..."
  • "We are just really impressed by this product."
  • "...a game changer."

Pros:
This product works 100% the way it is described to work. No surprises. Please know the description about charging Cessna products post 1996, it will not battery-mind through the plug-in port. However when I use the ground power supply unit with the master switch turned on, power does seem to bring the battery level up. I'm not an A&P nor an electrical engineer so I can't explain this anomaly, just keep in mind the reason I bought this unit was for ground power supply when programming my G1000. If you own a Cessna product post 1996, the battery minder function will work with direct access to the battery.

I had to call technical support and was surprised, moreover extremely pleased, with the way they process calls in transfer you directly to field support. In other words I had the chance to speak directly to someone in the field who was in the process of servicing an aircraft and then worked with me on my situation and questions. I can't say enough good things.

He also brought to my attention that Sportys is the only supplier who packages this unit with the Cessna plug free of charge, other suppliers charge an amount for the plug as an add-on option
Cons:
I honestly can't find any cons.

The unit is not heavy, it is extremely easy to use, it does everything it says it would do, I think it's a great product for what they advertise.

Two thumbs up in my opinion.

And… If you own a Cessna product, Sportys is the only supplier offering the 'plug adaptor' option free of charge for this price.

Pros:
Does a great job of charging and maintaining my aircraft batteries during extended storage and in the cold. The 28V power supply feature is handy if you need to mess with the avionics and not draw down the battery. Kit came complete with everything I needed to use the device.
Cons:
I was hoping that I could simply plug the adapter plug into the external power (3 hole) plug and charge/maintain my batteries. It doesn't work like that on my plane (Baron). I have to hook it directly to the batteries themselves. Also there is a temperature sensor involved that must be bolted to the battery post. So a few screws and a ratchet involved.

No complaints here. Not as convenient as I thought originally, but I understand the reason for having a temperature sensor and direct battery connections.

Pros:
Lightweight so very portable.
Well constructed.

This is an excellent piece of equipment which is very useful particularly for aircraft with EFIS/MDU displays where you need to have the displays powered up while building flight plans etc. so no more flat batteries.

Pros:
Easy to use, versatile, and does what it says it will do. Compact, we could even take it on the road with us if needed.

We operate a Garrett TPE-331 powered Fairchild Merlin III B. Healthy batteries are important to our dispatch reliability. This product allows us to do in plane training, maintenance and keep our batteries in top condition.

Pros:
This product works very well on a 24 volt system.
Cons:
Two problems: (1) You can't charge your battery by plugging into your aircraft's external power plug; you have to attach leads to the battery terminals. Not a big issue, but it was frustrating for me until I figured out the problem. (2) You will pull the charger right off the shelf, and send it crashing to the hangar floor, if you leave it attached to your battery while pulling your aircraft out of your hangar. My advice: Don't forget (as I did -- twice) to unplug the unit from your battery BEFORE you pull your aircraft out of your hangar. But the good news: The charger crashed to the concrete floor (twice) and still works perfectly. It's very durable!

I love this product, even though I paid more for it that you would have to pay -- because Sporty's is selling it for a cheaper price now. I love this product. You will too.
