Great headset!
Great headset! This is my first headset with ANC, and it is worth it! I flew with them for the first time from Houston to Washington D.C. in a Grumman Tiger, which was over 9 hours of flight time. The headset was very comfortable to wear the entire flight and was not near as tight as other headsets (both David Clark and other brands) that do not have ANC. The ANC blocked out the excess engine noise, but perfectly balanced to allow me to continue to hear the engine just fine to judge performance. At the end of the long day, my head felt fine and not at all sore from being squeezed. Hooking up the Bluetooth to my iPhone was a breeze. Some reviews complained about not being able to hang the headset up on the yoke, but I found that I like to leave the headset in the bag and take them out once I got inside the plane. This worked fine and I actually prefer that technique now to the old habit pattern of hanging the headset on the yoke. When the flight is done, they fold easily away back into the bag and takes up less room than my other headsets. The price is the only drawback, otherwise I would have three others in the plane already. It is David Clark's most expensive headset, but the performance is worth it.

Works as advertised, worth the money
I was comparing between this, the A20 and the Zulu PFX and eventually chose these as I know that David Clark is renowned for quality and durability. My former headsets were the iconic H10-13.4 that served me well and I found the ONE-X to be an awesome step up. It has just the right clamping pressure and the control module is perfectly easy to use and the user guide is straightforward with no waffle which made this already easy to use headset even easier to use. Tested it out on a flight today on the 172S and I found that this headset really cancels a lot of noise however still allows the engine to be heard clearly so you can set throttle by hearing and you will notice if the engine is playing up in any way. It cancels the noise in a way that allows you to hear the engine but not be fatigued by its constant droning. Pros: Good clamp that provides excellent PNR Excellent ANR that provides just the right noise reduction Very comfortable ear seals and outlast headband Easy to use control module, even a monkey can figure it out (I am serious) Great control module clip which is durable and sturdy Amazing audio quality for communications and music Cons: Don't like how the headset defaults to a folded state, I do like to hang my headset on the mixture for preflight Microphone seems to be a tad too short, but with adjustment this is rectified Looking forward to many years of faithful service from this pair of green domes!

Excellent Headset
It's my first ANR headset so I really have nothing similar to compare it to. However compared to my 20 year old ASA air classic headset it's amazing. I bought the DCs because in addition to the lower cost then the Bose A20 I read reviews that stated for piston engine pilots like myself the DC's let in a little more engine noise which helps with being able to hear the change in pitch of the engine. I find that it does well in that catagory and the ANR technology is excellent for loud cockpits like the Cessna 172 that I fly.

Number 1 in comfort number 3 in ANR
I have owned all of the top ANR headsets and have put them to the flying test for multiple years now, here is what I have found. David Clark Dc one x is by far the most comfortable to wear for long flights. In a side by side comparison with Bose a20 on a trans-continental flight, I found the least amount of head fatigue with the David Clark. When it comes to noise reduction I give the winner to the Bose A20 with Lightspeed second and dc a close third. Finally when it comes to Bluetooth connectivity the Lightspeed takes the lead followed by the dc, with Bose coming in third. The verdict: For comfort and overall build quality go with Dc one x For quietest in multiple aircraft the Bose is the big winner here. For connectivity and Bluetooth the Lightspeed Zulu takes the win. All in all David Clark has hit a home run with this one and it has actually edged out my A20 for amount of use this year! I have been waiting for David Clark to compete in this region with an over ear design and I am very glad that this is what they have come up with.

David Clark can finally compete!
It was a bit of a plunge for me to buy my first DC Headset. I have never been very impressed with their products, but this headset has finally changed that. While the Bose A20 Headset is still considerably the best in terms of noise cancellation ( I would hope they would be since they invented active noise reduction ) , the David Clarks are more compact, just as comfortable to wear, manage heat build up a little bit better and the coms are crystal clear. The build quality is high grade and the use of strong, light alloys along with thick plastics makes this a top tier headset. I would compare the noise cancellation to be on par with the Lightspeed Zulu 2's. The Control unit which is attached to the cord is very durable and comes with a clip so you can attach to a side pocket or seatbelt. The controls are very easy to use and the bluetooth function allows for high quality streaming audio, which sounds great! Overall I can say I am very happy with this headset and I plan on keeping it in my flight bag for years to come. I would recommend this headset over any current Lightspeed headset, even the PFX's, but I think my A20's will still be my go to headset on those long days of flying. If you are in the market for a nice headset that will last for years, the DC's are an excellent choice. They come in at a little over $200 cheaper than the current top headsets ($100 less if you are a CFI.) A note on the noise cancellation: The DC's do block plenty of unwanted noise, but you can still hear your engine and gyros nice a clear whilst not finding it distracting. It almost seems as if DC took into account the incidents where an ANR headset cancelled out a noise or alarm that would have otherwise alerted the pilot to an issue with the aircraft or flight and tuned the noise cancellation accordingly to avoid such instances. ( Just a thought ) Compared to the Bose A20s - The headset has a more noticeable hiss than the A20's when the noise cancellation is turned on. While this "hiss" is indicative of all ANR headsets, some are a bit louder than the others. In this case, its the David Clarks.

Fantastic Headset
I was lucky to get to try out my new One-X the same day I got to try out a friend's Bose A20. Initial thoughts: the One-X is very comfortable, the sound quality is clear and crisp, the ear seals are much more comfortable than the A20's, the "Outlast" fabric head pad kept the top of my head cool even on a hot Alabama summer day, and as to be expected with any David Clark product the headset is of quality materials and construction. Compared to A20, the ANR on the DC One-X is slightly less "aggressive". For my tastes, I like that the noise cancelling on the One-X doesn't completely eliminate all the ambient noise so that I can hear the engine and detect any minute change in tone that might be indicative of any impending engine issues. Even without the ANR activated, the passive noise cancelling is excellent and when the ANR is on, the noise cancelling goes from good to great. For the price, i really don't think this headset can be beat. If you're absolutely dead set on spending the $1100, on a Bose A20, then go for it. But if you're looking for an ANR headset that delivers on all fronts, and has an "out the door" price that's $~200 less than the A20, then get the One-X. It is well worth the money and will serve me well for years to come.

Fantastic!
This headset blew me away. It still has just the right clamping pressure to keep it on for (light) aerobatics and any turbulence, but is still light and comfortable. This is a whole new generation of headset. Surprisingly, although it wasn't designed to, it seems to have a good bit of passive noise reduction in case you forget batteries. The module is small and easy to use even with gloves. I have not used a lightspeed Zulu so I cannot make a comparison there, but I find it much nicer than Bose A20's I have used previously. Of course it is very quiet. Headset also feels durable.

Will this work with the David Clark K10 helmet?
Brett N on Jul 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately it will not fit directly into the helmet. That being said it is only the headset earcup shape that prevents this from happening. If you are handy I don't believe it would be very difficult to add enough material such that the One-X would fit into the helmet.

I have a One-X that I love, and I keep a H10-13X in my K10 helmet for flights I need the helmet.
Would you recommend this over the Zulu 2/Bose A20?
A shopper on Jul 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Depends on what you are looking for. The David Clark DC One-X uses the same electronics pkg as the David Clark DC Pro. I have around 8,500hrs of flight time and currently fly as captain on a Legacy 600. I came to the corporate side after 8yrs of flying at the regionals. Build quality and comfort are the top two things I look for. The noise canceling is excellent and the BQ/comfort is great. Youc an't go wrong.
Can it be ordered with a helicopter plug? Does anyone have any experience with the DC ones in a helicopter?

What does DSP do ? My problem is not noise but fuzzy audio.
William A on Aug 2, 2016
Does this set have passive protection as well as active. In other words if the headset has no power will your hearing be protected?
John B on Aug 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If the headset looses power it will provide some noise cancelation but not a tremendous amount. Of course that will depend on which airplane you are in too. I used this headset in a J3 Cub with the door open and they did not work well at all so I went back to using the regular clamp style headsets in the J3. I've also used these headsets in a corporate jet and they do well in that environment in both passive and active mode. The jet is obviously quieter so you hear a continuous hiss in the background, however. This headset has a very good mic and the boom swivels 180 degrees for left and right side use.
Without cellphone interface can you talk on your cellphone via blue tooth?
Ken C on Nov 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: That is what I use the bluetooth for. And the co pilot or passenger can't hear my conversation while I'm on bluetooth. I have to get off of the call to get back on the intercom.
I am searching for a headset under a lb. such as 11 oz or so?
Patty B on Mar 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Most of the DC headsets are around a pound. I do not have a specific weight for this headset.
Is this the same as the dc one x enc?
David C on Dec 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the enc stands for Electronic Noise Cancelling. It may also be referred to as Active Noise Reduction.
Does it over the whole ear like Bose?
A shopper on Jul 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is a full coverage headset that goes around the ear.
How much does it weigh?
A shopper on Jul 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: 12.3 ounces, without the cord.
