Unfortunately, when I first tried it, audio in the right ear didn't work, and the mic was very muffled. I read similar reviews of people having audio issues in on of the ears. Not sure if my headset was malfunctioned or if this is a regular occurrence in all of them.July 15, 2017Purchased
2 months agoResponse from Sporty's Pilot ShopThe one ear audio problem may be due to the stereo/mono setting not being set appropriately for your audio ipanel. Try flipping that switch and see if that fixes it.August 10, 2017John ZimmermanStaffPerformance1 / 5Value1 / 5Would You Recommend?YesA waste of money.A waste of money. The ANR is almost non-existent. A good passive headset is a much better use of your flying dollars.July 14, 2017Purchased
2 months agoDurability4 / 5Reliability3 / 5Performance4 / 5Ease Of Use3 / 5Value4 / 5Would You Recommend?Yesgood economy headset for a beginnerI've owned this headset for a couple of months. It is a good headset for the money. But if I was doing it again, I would probably spend the extra money for Lightspeed Sierra.
Note that the stereo/mono switch is poorly located. It is easy to accidentally switch it to stereo while changing the batteries, I've done it twice. Once you've done this, the switch is so small and hard to see that you can't switch it back easily It's virtually impossible in flight, I have to use a flashlight and small screwdriver to switch it. This is a real pain when you are on an ifr flight plan going in and out of IMC, glad my old David Clark's were within reach!June 23, 2017Reliability3 / 5Performance3 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5ANR is great but...I got mine two days ago and couldn't wait to try them. I took them for a x-country today and for some reason the ANR feature kept shutting off like every ten minutes. I'm not sure if it's a product defect or maybe I should try a different set of batteries (I used a fresh set of alkalines). Either way I'll try new batteries next time and we'll see. SPORTY'S CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONSE Thank you for the review. Please let us know if the problem persists. We'll send another unit out ASAP.May 20, 2017Durability5 / 5Reliability4 / 5Performance3 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Great Product except on thing....This is a great headset for the price and easy to use for a student pilot like myself. The only thing is I must have gotten a bad headset because I have only had them for around a month to two and the right speaker has no audio. Besides that, I would recommend this as a good beginning headset. SPORTY'S CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONSE Thank you for the review, and please accept our apologies for the speaker issue. Normally if you only have sound coming through one speaker, this indicates a stereo/mono issue. Remove the batteries, and flip the S/M switch and see if this fixes the issue. If this does not fix the issue, we will gladly switch them out for a new pair. This type of device -- at this cost-effective and attractive price-point -- wasn't available to me when I last flew in 1981. Now, there's no concern whatsoever about hearing any communications at towered or non-towered airports; the conversations are loud-and-clear; the thick, position adjustable, leather ear muffs are an excellent feature. Plus, the active noise reduction feature significantly reduces engine noise, too. When coupled to an iPhone, phone calls are a snap as inputs to the microphone are executed in a crystal clear manner. In addition, listening to music -- with the iPhone as the source -- is easily accomplished with the provided interface cable assembly. I highly recommend the Faro Aviation Stealth ANR headset from Sporty's as an essential and necessary pilot tool in today's busy cockpit environment!April 6, 2017Durability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Works well!!I ordered the headset and took it out for a flight. I was disappointed on the active noise reduction. I had flown with a Bose quiet comfort 2 headset with the microphone boom you can insert. The ANR of the FARO was less. I went to the Faro aviation website and saw all the positive feedback and believe mine was just not working well. So I called Faro and talked to them. They sent me another headset and the gel earpads. I tested the second headset and it worked great. I flew for about an hour and I am really happy with them. This is a great lower cost ANR headset without losing quality. A note on the gel ear pads. They are very difficult to put on, they seem to small and you have to use a small spoon as a shoehorn to get them on.March 23, 2017
