3 weeks agoDurability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Would You Recommend?YesEasily Modified Into a High End KneeboardI really wanted a case where I could have access to a paper pad and the iPad, but I didn't want to spend $125 for it. I settled for this one, and with one medium size alligator clip was able to modify the kneeboard to beautifully accomplish my goal.
In order to do it, you need a folding iPad case with a lid. Rather than securing the ipad directly to the kneeboard, secure the lid to the kneeboard so the iPad is free to move. It works wonderfully.April 6, 2018Purchased
3 weeks agoDurability4 / 5Reliability3 / 5Performance3 / 5Ease Of Use2 / 5Value3 / 5Would You Recommend?YesModifications needed to make it more practical for iPad 10.5Generally this kneeboard is very comfortable and pretty durable for the iPad in flight, but there is a major issue regarding the mounting of the iPad 10.5 in the unit using the elastic corner retainers. As the 10.5 has less of a bezel than the Mini or 9.7 and the screen fills more of the space on the iPad corner to corner, the elastic retainers on the kneeboard mount block app controls in the corners of the screen, which is an issue when using many aviation apps like ForeFlight. Additionally, there is no clipboard area to retain papers or notes when you’re not using the iPad. I am going to make a new iPad retainer for the kneeboard to Velcro in place using another case that won’t restrict the corners and provides a more rigid shell. Using the flap that covers the zippered compartment on the right, I am going to craft a clipboard overlay that I can flip over and place on top of the iPad when needed. Once I do this I may forward photos to the product design team at Sportys to see if any of these additions might be worth adapting in a later design.
I recommend it for earlier models of iPad and on durability for the cost, but not quite yet for the iPad 10.5App functions in corners blocked by elastic on 10.5 iPadMarch 13, 2018Purchased
2 months agoDurability2 / 5Reliability2 / 5Performance2 / 5Ease Of Use3 / 5Value2 / 5Would You Recommend?NoToo Bulky for a center YokeI had hoped that this would be the way I would fly with my ipad on my knee. This kneeboard looks so promising. But alas, it fell short. The ipad sits very high on your knee because of all the pieces that are under the board with the straps that are designed to let you give it a bit of an angle on your knee. If you don't want the cover hanging off the side, you can fold it under as well but that just adds to the height. On top of that, the elastic that holds the ipad in place is not the best and gets in the way of the sleep button which I sometimes use on longer cross-countries.
I can look past the elastic issue but the bulk is just ridiculous. If I were flying a Cirrus with the side stick or even a plane with a center stick, this would probably not be an issue. However, I fly Pipers and Cessnas with center yokes and I've banged the ipad with the yoke on final in windy days way too many times. The only way I could prevent this kneeboard from getting in the way of my landings was to slide it around my leg 90 degrees so its on the side of my leg or just take it off at the first GUMPS check.March 6, 2018Durability2 / 5Reliability2 / 5Performance2 / 5Ease Of Use1 / 5Value1 / 5Would You Recommend?Nohi. reviews & catalogue pix look good and the thing is pretty, but flimsy. i bought it for a 10.5 ipad. the separate slab that holds the ipad is connected by a very small piece of velcro to the part that goes around the leg. it wobbles. it's floppy. the tilt factor, although the idea is good, does not do the job because it is wobbly and floppy, and actually does not tilt toward the pilot enough. the pockets on the flap are so flat that nothing much but paper could fit in them. they are just extra baggage imho. i returned it, although i was sorry that it did not do what i expected.March 5, 2018Purchased

I don't use Foreflight so don't know if it is in issue with Foreflight too.March 5, 2018Durability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Works GreatReally great accessory for my IPad mini. I really like the the tilt feature, taking the glare off the screen. I also like that you can fold the flap under, out of the way. Improvement would be to allow the flap on the left making a small lap desk and still have the tilt function work. Overall a great product and great value.February 27, 2018Purchased

I tried it in a Cessna 172, I could not move the yoke left to right. I tried it in a plane with a stick and it was also too bulky.
In both cases I could not use my IPad. Also it says that you could tilt the IIPad , however there is not a lot of velcro to support. My IPad almost dropped twice, as the velcro attaching is not very large. Very disappointed.February 19, 2018Purchased
2 months agoDurability2 / 5Reliability2 / 5Performance2 / 5Ease Of Use2 / 5Value2 / 5Would You Recommend?NoNot as good as the old one. This is my second iPad kneeboard by Flight Gear. The last one was for an iPad Air. This new one is for an iPad Pro. I like to keep the iPad flat against my knee and not canted upwards. The old model would keep the iPad tightly secured in any position including flat. But, this new one uses a small piece with Velcro to prop up the iPad at whatever canted angle you want. You CAN lie the iPad flat. But, in the flat position the little prop does not secure the top end of the unit, and allows it to flop around quite a bit.February 1, 2018Purchased
3 months agoDurability4 / 5Reliability4 / 5Performance4 / 5Ease Of Use4 / 5Value4 / 5Would You Recommend?YesiPad mini Knee BoardAll in all I like the knee board.
I think the design is well thought out and it works as advertised.... except it is NOT easy to reverse it, and have it on the left leg with the hanging part on the outside of the left leg.
It can be done... but then the iPad angling velcro that is used to angle the iPad towards the user, doesn't work right. The upper (formerly lower) velcro pad is too thin to make it work.
Suggestion would be to make BOTH velcro pads the same, larger, size. That way the knee board could indeed be used on either leg.
The elastic to hold it works well for the bare iPad mini, but does not accommodate the larger thickness when I keep the iPad mini in the Apple case I bought with it. That necessitates the removal of the iPad mini every time I want to fly with it.January 22, 2018Purchased

I just got my new knee-board a few days ago and love it. It has elastic straps that hold the iPad in place. So it is not like some hard case mounts that are ultra specific.
My iPad is a 9.7" screen, but is 11" exactly from corner to corner. If your iPad (or other tablet, for that matter) measures around that, you should be good to go with this knee-board. OH! And it is comfortable, too! My only wish is that they had another Velcro strap at the top, too, for extra hold when i have the knee-board flat, as in my aircraft I actually prefer NOT to prop it up.
Hope that helps.I see questions about the straps blocking the corners of the iPad. Is it possible to cut a slight notch and still keep the iPad secure to the knee board?BEST ANSWER: I would not recommend cutting any material out of the elastic strap because it may weaken the
tension strength or possibly cause it to become unraveled. If the strap obstructs viewing presentation that is in the corner of the ipad or tablet, you may want to try wrapping thread , string, or a narrow piece of tape around the elastic to make the strap more narrow. That would still preserve the strength of strap and possibly improve the view. Good luck.
