Its a remedial tool. Yes its an external GPS. Yes it works. I would rather spend the money on a Stratus and get ALL the benefits. If your using this for primary flight instruments, don't. Ipad yes, it syncs. Android, no. I'm having issues with my apps finding it.

i think its a great product but it has only two problems 1- there is no app that you can see the battery level and status 2- you can not see that how many devices are using from your gps via blutooth ( just 1 blue light )

Pros: I have only used the GPS a few times both in the air and in my car it was spot on in accuracy and linked to my IPad and synced to the satellites in less than a minute. Cons: None at this time, but time will only tell. None

Pros: Once the device is setup for your Android tablet it is very easy to use in the future. While it is true that the device overheats on the dash in the summer and will turn off, I have found that it works perfectly well in just about any location in the cockpit. In my Navajo I place it on a cabinet shelf behind the copilot seat where I can see it. It has never had any problem getting up to 12 satellites at a time. The battery capacity is large enough to fly almost an entire day. The aviation version comes with a adapter to charge it in the aircraft and it charges in 3 hours. So I can easily unplug my tablet and charge this device while en route and keep both device going throughout the day. I am really happy with the device and Garmin Pilot which I use it with. The battery can be removed if necessary. This make it possible to prevent the device from turning on in your flight bag or having several batteries charged for long trips. I almost did not purchase this device because I read so many poor reviews about it turning itself on and then the battery being dead before a flight. The last review I read said to just hold the power button until the amber light comes on and then release. Apparently holding the button until all the light go out only restarts the device. Following this device, I have not had any problems with the device being found dead before a flight. Cons: Charging the device on a computer can be problematic if the computer puts itself to sleep. You might want to puchase a wall USB charger for it so that you know it is being charged and readied for the next flight. Garmin does not give very good instructions on how to setup on an Android device. The mention that you might need to get a free app to allow your tablet to accept mock GPS input, but give no suggestions on how to do this. There are free apps online and after downloading one and experimenting for 10 minutes or so I was able to get it to reliably work. No that I have it setup it quickly starts and works with no problems. I called Garmin concerning how my device Garmin Pilot can be placed on since this device comes with a 6 month trial. They quickly answered the phone and my question. You can place 1 subscription on two devices.

Pros: Easy to setup Cons: Died after one day, really disappointed Garmin would put a product like this out. Also pretty irritating that they decide to cut costs by not including a wall charger. They only give you a 12v cigarette lighter charger, so unless you buy a Garmin charger separately you're or you charge it in your car, you're out of luck.

Pros: Very simple to connect to my I-pad and worked flawlessly on my first flight. Rubber holder really stays where you put it. I have not used the product long enough to rate durability or reliability, but I don't anticipate any problems in either area.

Pros: Convenient size, easy to use, versatile. Cons: No battery status indicator, and the power is too easily turned on unintentionally with the sensitive button. The add-on I was looking for to increase the utility of my non-gps iPad.
