Works like a charm!
Worked fine right out of the box with easy connection to IPad and ForeFlight. Great option for iPads w/o data plan.

Works perfectly
This little GPS is perfect for what I use it for; driving the maps on my iPad in the airplane, motorhome, and out in the desert on the side by side. I used the Maps.me freebie app and Foreflight, and they seem happy with the data. The Bluetooth connectivity is a big improvement over the older 30-pin iPad version from a couple of years back. No wires, and it connects multiple devices at once. It locks on almost instantly, and I have yet to lose signal to where position was degraded or lost. Battery life seems to be as advertised, and recharging is basic plug into any power source that's handy.

Too soon to tell
I only got this unit a week or so ago. I have flown with it twice, and it has preformed flawlessly. If you want a good report, you should ask after I have had it a while, and had a chance to see if it has any problems.

Great product, especially for the price!
Super easy to use and no problems connecting to my iPad, it just takes it a couple of minutes to lock onto satellites.

Great for Glider Pilots
I fly a motor glider and use it to record soaring flight profiles, I use the iPad App to store the flight tracks. I also mail the track files to my Mac and plot them in 3D with software I wrote. My Bad Elf Pro slid under my seat in the airplane. I thought I had looked everywhere. Because I can't do without it, I bought a second one and, of course, almost immediately found the first one. It's handy to have a spare.

I purchased this to go with an ipad for flight school for my son. He really likes it and said the other students will see 'Elf Pro' and want one as well! Tried it in the car as well!

Pros: -Compact -Lightweight -Durable/tough shell & screen -Easy to use -Acquires satellites quickly despite thick overcast or poor weather conditions -Long battery life -Great price for all its capabilities -Can use with a broad variety of apps -Fast delivery despite being thousands of miles away -Awesome customer service by Sporty's Pilot Shop staff Cons: I have honestly not identified any as of yet, and I've given this device some frequent use in a variety of adverse environments. Definitely a must-have. I am no pilot, nor do I put this product to use in the relative field. But as a vet and security contractor, this device has helped simplified navigation and is strongly recommended by my colleagues and I the same. Its been dropped, rained on, had mud and sand on it, in extreme heat and cold climates. Yet, it holds strong. Hasn't failed me yet. Next Spring on my hiking/camping/rock climbing trip in Colorado, this is definitely coming with. Compatible with many apps I use on personal and professional level. You won't be disappointed. I gain nothing in stating the facts. Hope you commit to this purchase, because you'll be glad you did.

Does it work with google maps or the mapping program on an iPad 6plus?
BobWorrall on Jul 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi Bob. I have an iPad Air with 64 GB of RAM that I purchased in late 2015. The Bad Elf Pro I purchased seems to work fine with the mapping applications on my iPad. I tested this by first turning off the "Location Services" in the "Privacy" tab. Then, I opened a map application to verify that no position information was available. I then turned on my Bad Elf Pro GPS receiver. It nearly immediately linked with the iPad and in a few seconds, my position was annotated on the map application. While I can't specifically speak for using an iPad 6+, the Bad Elf Pro works just fine with the iPad Air 64 GB. I'd suggest that you contact the folks at Bad Elf to see if they can answer your "6+" question. I'd send you the link to them, but the "fine print" in this site prohibits me from doing that. You should be able to find them simply by "googling" them. Good luck.

Does this unit have a barometric sensor for altitude?
A shopper on Sep 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I suspect not. I've read through the instructional material, and labeling on the box. I do not see anything that indicates this GPS receiver measures "barometric" altitude. The box does show that the Bad Elf II is "accurate to 8 ft (2.5 m). I don't know what your application requirement is, but for aviation purposes, this is certainly sufficient.
two questions , Our first use and interest is for sailing & racing on Lake Erie where there is limited cell service.
This device works without cell service regardless of having marine map software loaded or not?
Second, I've experienced in Guatalama last year, that an I Phone had better mapping capability than the off market map I bought for my Garmin GPS. Would this support that?
Dwight M on Aug 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I also use the bad elf GPS unit for sailing and race management on the Chesapeake Bay. I connect via Bluetooth to an iPad with various marine navigation apps. Bad elf's GPS signal is fluid and accurate 100% of the time. Much more so than with my iPhone cell connection. There are apps that are better than others and in some cases it's more personal choice.
There are also parts of the Bay where I do not get proper cell service or the service is intermittent. Bad Elf works regardless of where I am.

As to your experience in Guatemala, I have previously used a handheld GPS device but the mapping on those units was less than adequate. With navigation apps on my iPhone using the Bad Elf signal, my only restriction was limitations related to the available mapping in remote areas.

I hope this helps
Will this work with my marine apps. On an iPad Pro? Thought my iPad was gps enabled but apparently with an *.
A shopper on May 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It will depend on the app. I would go to www.badelf.com and check to see if the app is listed. I would expect that it should work.
Does this unit work with Android phones and pc's?
A shopper on Oct 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Since I'm an Apple user, I couldn't immediately provide you an answer, but first referenced the user manual that came with my Bad Elf II. According to the documentation that comes with this device, it'll only work with Apple devices (I know, "bummer" for you!). This site won't permit me to forward you the Bad Elf support email address. However, I'd bet you can find that information on-line, by "googling" Bad Elf II.
