line of site to tach is blocked

Not Recommended

I currently am working on a student Private Pilots license, fly a Piper Warrior. I received the product, and on my next schedule flying lesson, arrived at the school, preflighted the plane and then attempted to install/attach the Ram to the yoke. after its attached, what you notice is line of sight to the tachometer is completely blocked.now you can(after manually loosening the wing nut) is rotate the RAM sideways but you still have limited line of site to the tachometer. now unless you have fairly refined auditory acuity(and can listen to the engine RPM and know what RPM level you are)and I do not, you need line of site to the tach. you can see the "6 pack" but line of site to the tach is, for all practical purposes, blocked.

Standard arm works great for C-182 but not long enough for Piper Seminole. I could not find what I needed on the RAM site but I did find it on Sporty's. I needed the 6.25" long arm. For the pilot's side on teh Seminole, I attach the claw facing down, the LONG arm under the yoke and then the Ipad does not block the view of the instruments. But now I'm out an extra $30 for the long arm. Anybody wanna buy a short one?

Could use easy improvement

Recommended

When mounted on C182 yoke need to mount iPad upside down should have one more adjustable mounting point so iPad could be mounted right side up. When trying to mount right side up interferes with instruments as designed.

Best Investment Ever

If you fly with Foreflight or the like, this product is a no brainer. I know the included pic shows the Ipad mounted upright - which blocks the instruments, but rest assured that does not have to be the case. Simply flip the holder upside down and you can have a clear view of your 6 pack and still retain the tilt-ability.

This product is tough and designed down to the mm, downside is that you will have to take off your ipad cover to make it fit. It clamps down so hard that my Ipad screen protector (thin clear glass) cracked while inserting. The ipad itself has no damage, but I will be using the plastic screen protectors from now on.

Bottom line, once it's in, Turbulence or not it ain't going anywhere. The whole set up is easy to connect and disconnect to the yoke as well. A lot better than holding the Ipad on your knee (head down time) if you ask me.

Great product, easy installation.

Recommended

I am currently doing instrument training in a C-172. The yoke had a clip that I though would be in the way. I installed the mount two separate ways. I put the yoke grip right behind the yoke with the ball to the right and the 3 inch extension between the right yoke grip and the center of the yoke. The IPad mount worked horizontally and didn't interefere with access to the yoke. If you like the iPad vertically, you can mount it so it comes from the underside of the yoke.

Very Easy to use, I use it upside down so it

I flip the board around so the the ipad home button is then on the top. This allows the ipad to come down over the yoke and not block any of the instruments.

Will this mount work with the 9.7" iPad Pro ?.
Al K on Aug 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes.
Has anyone tried mounting this on the co-pilot yoke (I don't want to block my 6 pack) with it angled to the left seat?
A shopper on Jan 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have one mounted on pilot and co-pilot yoke. To mount vertical, turn upside down from picture then place ipad upside down. To mount horizontal, change the plate mounting point to the other option. Only covers my yoke in C-182 and not gauges.
Does it work on a PA 28,and can it be mounted so the mount goes under the yoke as not to block the instruments such as the tachometer?
Paul M on Jan 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I've used this mount (iPad Air 2) in a Warrior II, Warrior III & Cherokee Six. Only the Warrior III with the Avidyne glass cockpit had no problems with blocking any instruments, because there aren't any on the lower panel. There will always be something you can't see without looking around the iPad since panel space is at a premium, but it's not a big problem.
To test what you'll be able to see before you buy, sit in your normal position as you would when flying, anything that you look at between the yoke arms will be blocked from view. That will be a limitation of any yoke mount. Or just hold up your iPad in front of the yoke to see what it blocks.
Can the Ipad be mounted horizontally and centered between the rams horns?
russ k on Sep 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: yes problem is I pad power connection is on one end so connection must be on the end with the 2 tabs at the corners. I mount mine that way but the power cord runs all the way from pax side. I have I Pad Pro 9.7 in It take up a lot of room and blocks some gauges. If doing again I'd get a smaller unit
How much does this weigh?
A shopper on Oct 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: it doesn't hardly weigh anything maybe a few ounces but less than a pound
Will this work in a Comanche 180 with an iPad 2?
A shopper on Oct 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It should work. I've had mine for a while and it works on any yoke.
Will the jaws close enough to attach to lip of panel overhang (aprox. 1/8")?
Dick D on Apr 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This item will not. I would recommend item 1031A. This is specifically designed for the glare shield.
Can this be mounted "under" the yoke so the iPad does not completely block the instrument panel?
Gary M on Dec 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes it can - works well in most airplanes.
Has anyone tried mounting their iPad Air 2 on this device in a Generation 3 Cirrus SR22? I'm thinking of attaching he clamp to the "Grab Here" bar over the copilot knees. Thanks
A shopper on Nov 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I've seen this in use like that - it works well.
