I normally use a cover/keyboard combination on my iPad all the time. These do NOT work with the RAM product, so I have to take the cover off my iPad each flight. A little annoying but no big deal.
In the Cessna 172's I fly, the claw best attaches from above and then the long arm comes over the yoke and supports the cradle for the iPad. The clips that hold the iPad into the cradle will "push" the power button if used "normal" but rotating the cradle so the release clip is down resolves the problem. I have had no trouble with it staying in place or not holding the iPad.
Good product and easy to install for each flight. I've used it on 2 different C172M aircraft.March 6, 2018Purchased

Great fit and security for the ipad and leaves room to see the panel. I prefer it over the suction cup mounts. Feels like the cockpit is more streamlined.February 5, 2018Purchased

It's a little tight in my 1961 Cessna 150A but everything is tight in it. I mounted it sideways on the pilot's side of the yoke and it's almost flat like a table top. Only problem is in bright sunlight the screen is hard to see but that is not the holder's fault. Best money I've spent yet.January 20, 2018Purchased

Only the Warrior III with the Avidyne glass cockpit had no problems with blocking any instruments, because there aren't any on the lower panel. There will always be something you can't see without looking around the iPad since panel space is at a premium, but it's not a big problem.
To test what you'll be able to see before you buy, sit in your normal position as you would when flying, anything that you look at between the yoke arms will be blocked from view. That will be a limitation of any yoke mount. Or just hold up your iPad in front of the yoke to see what it blocks. Is it easy to attach on and off?
