I knew I’d need ads-b to have additional safety net from heavy traffic volume in Phoenix.Stratus 1S saved me from mid air collision today and I will count on it every time I go up.October 19, 2017Purchased

Because I was using the Stratus as backup I still had weather and terrain. Made ADM much easier. Sporty's even refunded $100 from my purchase price when I found out it was on sale within 30 days after.September 30, 2017Purchased
9 months agoEase Of Use5 / 5Value4 / 5Would You Recommend?YesVery easy set up. the window mount worked the best for plane.
The real time weather and information is wonderful. It is not "out-going" The traffic is not so helpful - and as more planes are actually broadcasting, the traffic icons will make the map very busy. all traffic at all altitudes show up on the screen. It would be nice to filter out traffic not near my altitude.September 1, 2017Purchased
4 months agoResponse from Sporty's Pilot ShopThere is a traffic filter in ForeFlight. From the Maps page, tap the settings button at the top left (gear symbol) then select "Hide distant traffic."September 25, 2017John ZimmermanStaffDurability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance4 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value4 / 5Would You Recommend?YesStratus 1SBought the 1S primarily for the GPS, traffic and weather interface with Firelight. The Stratus WIFI works seamlessly with the IPAD once we did the initial setup- just push the power button and it turns on and quickly links up with Foreflight. It does lose weather and traffic info at low altitudes depending on where you're flying, so keep that in mind.July 19, 2017Purchased

5 months agoDurability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Would You Recommend?YesGreat for summer flying in Florida!I just brought this in advance of a flight to Key West, Florida. Used it with ForeFlight and I can say it is one of the best flying investments I've made. Worked great. Gave an excellent picture of thunderstorms throughout the 400 mile trip. Highly recommended!July 9, 2017Durability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Would You Recommend?YesGreat product, needs more mounting optionsAfter much reviewing of ADS-b in options, I went with the Stratus 1S to pair with my Foreflight on my IPAD. This is a perfect combination for a number of software compatibility reasons.
The 1S is REALLY SIMPLE to operate, and runs at least 6-8 hours on a full charge (I actually have not "run it out of battery" in a day of flying yet. Recharge takes a few hours once home.
The information I receive is fantastic! I fly a Piper Cub and a Cessna 172 routinely for business, and my 1S accompanies me in both for much better weather and traffic SA. I have not had any GPS or traffic information issues.
My only gripe, is that the suction cup mount does fall off the window at times (scary on an airplane with an open side door), and the panel mount is fine, except in the southeast, a panel mount tends to cook most anything. I would like to see Stratus offer another RAM ball mount option, to mount it more securely than the suction cup on a window option.
Overall, I am very pleased with the Stratus 1S and will buy the ESG for ADS-b out in a few months so I will have the full enchilada.June 30, 2017Durability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value4 / 5Solid InvestmentI tried the low cost knock-off product, and believe me, the real deal is worth the investment. Solid unit, and easy to use. My testing showed 8+ hours of battery life. Good traffic and weather reception.April 14, 2017Durability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use3 / 5Value4 / 5Great tool-especially when renting an aircraftAlthough I have all of the features in my experimental, when I rent, having the GPS features as well as the ADS-B makes for a more complete aircraft.February 22, 2017

Browse 14 questions Browse 14 questions and 24 answersI usually fly on the weekend so the debate is to get the 1S or spend the extra money for the 2S. Not sure which one i want to purchase?BEST ANSWER: I bought the 1S because I wanted access to METARs and radar while in the air. From what I can tell, the advantage of the 2S is the AHARS (backup attitude indicator) and the dual-band traffic. However, the reviews told me that the traffic is incomplete anyway (I think it will be until everyone has ADS-B out anyway), and the airplanes I usually fly have AHARS and backup vacuum instruments, making the advantages of the 2S not worth the extra money.Single band vs dual band ads b?BEST ANSWER: I bought the Stratus 1S and flew from Florida to Oregon, single pilot, VFR and was very glad to have it.
