3D Touch shortcuts

For pilots with an iPhone 6S or newer, Takeoff offers quick access to popular sections via the iPhone's 3D Touch feature. Tap firmly on the Takeoff icon on your home screen and you'll see a pop-up menu with options to go directly to the Aviation News section of the app or the main Articles & Videos page. There are also shortcuts for Featured Content (the posts chosen by Sporty's team as the most notable) and Favorites (selected by you). You'll also see the most recent post at the bottom. These shortcuts make it fast and easy to stay up to date with the latest content, even when you have just a few minutes.

Another helpful iOS feature is widgets, little parts of an app that can be displayed on your iPad's or iPhone's "today" screen without opening the app itself. To access this, swipe from left to right; you'll see a variety of widgets that come standard with your device. Scroll to the bottom and tap Edit, then select Takeoff. This will add the widget to your list, and display a preview of the most recent post. You can tap the "Show More" option in the top right corner to show four posts.

Multitasking features

These new features add to a growing list of advanced capabilities that make it easy to watch the latest video or read the latest article - without even leaving the app you're currently using. This includes slide-over multitasking (below) and split-screen multitasking. If you have a newer iPad, just slide your finger from the right edge of the screen, and choose Takeoff from the list of available apps.

Push notifications

Finally, push notifications are an easy way to get alerts when new content is published. To enable these, go to the Settings app, then Notifications, then Takeoff. Also be sure to select which topics you want to receive updates about, by going to the Profile section of the Takeoff app. When these are enabled, you'll get an alert on your phone or tablet when a new post in your preferred category is live - just tap on the alert to go to that post.
