Well built. Very good speaker quality/clarity. Very easy to use. Has a bit of weight to it, which I translate into a quality built radio. I am very pleased with the purchase and will highly recommend this radio.

I was a bit confused on how to program frequencies for scanning. Not really negative. Once I figured it out, all was good!

This is my first scanner, i work at the airport in Ecuador am now able to stay tune to the airport operations, i also live 7 miles from the airport an the radio tunes to the approach and radar frequencies, so i know whats going on at work

Great overall unit. I use it to help me obtain information from local airports enroute for traffic and advisories. Helps tremendously! A must have!

I bought this radio to replace my old Narco HT-800. Don't get me wrong - both radios are excellent units. The older one is heavier and has shorter battery life since it uses older technology. This radio is a nice upgrade.

The unit first of all is 120volts which was a plus some other units i almost ordered were alittle less but in the USA it would be a hassle to charge 220 volts. The lithium battery took about 6hrs for the first full charge then it was ready to go. The reception i found at ground level was great here in connecticut. I can easily pick up ATIS about 10miles at ground level. Towers at about 5miles and aircraft at altittude's of 30,000 plus. The scan function is great also. Its loud enough in a standard airport environment such as airshows.

Not at all easy to program. I have figured out that Scan doesnt work unless squelch is set above 0. The memory functions wow!!,, im still trying to figure out. Its easy to just punch in the freq. one at at time. The Manuel helps but This things gotta be simplified.!!The squelch is better in rotary knob form than the digital select that this unit has. The Headset plug is covered and requires a screwdriver to access. That could be a problem if you needed to use a headset in an emergency in the cockpit and didnt realize its blocked. The units loud but you will need an ear piece or headphone in the airplane so that your hands free.

Overall a Great buy it does what its supposed to do. Just remove the cover so as to have access to the earphone plug. The cost was reasonable and the fact that it charges on 120vlts instead of 220vlts. is great. The Keypad needs to be back lit,however i take the unit with me everytime i fly,,,its peace of mind knowing you can communicate if your electric goes belly up. But remember it will take time if you want to learn to use the fancy memory functions..I think they should sell a dvd to teach all the functions of the unit..and ill take ten percent icom!!

Small and light weight is good. Very easy to channel scan to the desired frequency. It is not difficult to program preset channels. I also found it to be a stronger reception than my previous hand held radio.

I wanted a Lithium battery and the choices were limited. This unit packed a lot of features for the money.

The instruction manual is a joke. Not wild about the way this unit stores frequencies. I'm confident that this process could be made easier. The keypad has no backlight and it doesn't come with the headset adapter.

Overall this unit serves it's purpose. You get a lot for the money. I do think the manual needs a redo.

Battery Life, Clear speaker at higher volume, Range, key pad, simplicity.

The A14 has the quality that Icom is known for. The new lithium battery technoligy is what drew me to this transceiver. You can now actually go all day long or a weekend of average use on a single charge, awesome! The speaker is high enough quality that communications is clear at the higher volume settings. You can either change the frequency by scrolling up/down via the key pad or punch the frequency in direct. A definite "Bang for the Buck". The only thing that would make this a 10 out of 10 is if the key pad lit up with the LCD.

The IC-A14 has the quality of construction that I have come to expect from ICOM based on my experience with their earlier hand held versions. It is compact and the keypad is easy to use. The light is easy to turn on and off even when "task saturated" in flight.

I had some difficulty setting up the channel memory until I figured out that I should disregard the weather channel instructions when reading the process for normal comm channels.

The unit does not come with a charger plug that you can use to recharge in flight (option at extra cost). It does have the "home" charger included.

The squelch is raised or lowered in steps by push buttons, and I slightly favor the old rotary squelch adjustments.

This is a great tranceiver and I would recommend it to anyone.
