    Pros

Beefy! It feels really solid. You can also tune in FM stations. Nice to have the nav feature because I frequently rent planes with only 1 VOR so it's nice to have the hand held so I can more easily identify intersections on victor airways.

    Cons

Lables over the buttons are tough to read. Not the most intuitive device.

    General Comments

With some practice, not very difficult to use. Lot's of features. Lot of bang for your buck. I'm very happy with it.

Very compact, solid, waterproof and of outstanding quality.
    Performs very well.
    Excellent reception quality.

    Cons

    None.

    General Comments

I noticed that some stores/sites favour the IComs, others the Vertex-Standards. I tried both and felt that the more modern VXA-710 fitted my needs much better: Unlike the plasticky iComs, the VS Spirit is much more compact, solid, waterproof, easy to use with very good reception quality.

Some people have commented that you can accidentally switch the frequency by turning the dial selector knob, even if the lock feature is activated. This can be modified easily:

    Settings [F]-[SET]
Turn the dial to go to: 5. Key Set [SEL]
And select one of the following modes using the DIAL and press [SEL]:
    DIAL / KEY / KEY+DIAL /PTT / DIAL+PTT /KEY+PTT / ALL

By default, only KEY is set. I use DIAL+PTT or ALL.

    Hope this helps.

Lightweight, compact, great battery, good clarity

    Cons

Buttons have to be pressed firmly to activate and does take using the manual the first couple times thru the operation.

    General Comments

Have only really used it to get ATIS prior to starting and listening to current Tower ops, but it adds peace of mind if I were to ever loose the radios.

Very happy with it so far. Very well designed, hardware, software and the user interface. Wish the optional (i.e. extra cost) AA battery adapter (FBA-23) were included with the unit since you'd need either that or an extra rechargeable pack (FNB-80LI) for backup.

I appreciate the small size and the many features packed into the small form factor.

    Cons

The programming of the tranceiver is not intuitive. You need to spend some time with the manual. But once you understand the various key sequences needed to program it you are good to go.

    General Comments

This is a very good tranceiver. Once you get through programming the memory you end up with a really nice scanning tranceiver. And it works well when connected to my headset.

This is my first radio, so I have nothing to compare it to. It doesn`t receive (on the ground) as well as I had hoped, and I haven`t tested it in the air yet. It appears to be built well.

Compact size, long battery life and easy to use once you read the instructions.

    Cons

As far as I can tell, the dial cannot be locked. It frequently changes when I wear it on my belt. Also the belt clip screw keeps loosening. Maybe some loctite would help?

    Great little radio, very compact.

    Cons

Don't care for the belt clip and as I read from the reviews prior to buying it it takes some time figuring how to program and use it. I agree read the operating manual.

    Pros

This radio has been great. I manage a small airport and have been using this as my everyday radio when I am outside on the ramp, doing runway inspections, mowing, or at my desk scanning or listening to the FM radio. The scanner function works really well and is quick enough that I can listen in on our local RCO and then hear the aircraft response on another frequency. Very compact compared to my previous hand held.

    Cons

It is a little complicated at first to setup. You need to read to the manual to get it programmed. Nearly every setting on this radio is programmable, but once you have everything set, the radio is stone simple to use.
The buttons can be a bit tricky, you have to press hard or press with your finger nail. I suspect this is because of the radio's waterproofing.
I originally thought that I would be able to broadcast on the BRS frequencies, but its receive only. Not a big deal but would have been nice.

    Pros

The compact size requires little space and adds minimal weight to your flight bag. Enough accessories to provide flexible operational options. Side tone and split communication a nice feature if one needs to transmit on comm and listen on VOR. There are a plethora of functions available on this transceiver.

    Cons

Buttons are not very responsive. It may be due to how they are sealed to provide the water resistance. I find I have to press them extra firmly to enact its function. Operation is not very intuitive. However, spending time reading the manual gets you going.

    General Comments

This is a very worthwhile transceiver. I have not yet found the Business Service Radio frequencies a benefit to me. The NOAA weather service frequencies are a nice feature and provides weather alerts.
