    Pros

As a lady with a small hand size I found the Spirit's small size to be perfect for my grip. I am very pleased with the easy-to-push buttons, clear reception, water resistant casing (!), long lasting battery life (so far), as well as the size and weight of the radio.

    Cons

Menu operations will take some time to learn and acclimate to for me, as a beginner. It would be nice if the manufacturer put more in their user manual!

    General Comments

Overall, I am pleased with the radio, and am looking forward to years of satisfied use. Thank you, Sporty's!

    Pros

Light weight is a big plus.
It has a very robust case.

    Cons

    User interface is not intuitive.
Light weight is the key advantage. I realized that the power supply is a heavy and old style transformer based unit. That offsets that "light weight" advantage if I travel with the airplane.
If we fly to other countries I need a wide range power supply. The power supply that was delivered is only 110V.
The key-pad does click but not work right. I have to press very strong after the click to get a response on the display. May be I have to send it back for warranty repair.

    Pros

small, powerful, strong case, easy to use after its set up.
I agree with the reviewer that stated no better radio...yet.

    Cons

Vertex could have done a better job of making the interface easy to use, for example making the SELECT button say ENTER.
That said, the manual is pretty good and once you set it up, it can be very easy to use for most functions.

    General Comments

I looked at the other radios, read the reviews, bought the radio and like it.

    Pros

This transceiver is amazing. It does everything sporty's radio does and way less bulky (no offense Sporty's just not my cup of tea to have bulky transceiver) The reception with the default antenna is better than average (for perspective I can receive DFW Tower and ATIS about 7mi away at my house albeit with the squelch open) Still a great transceiver and product (it's even submersible!) Awesome transceiver.

    Cons

Everyone always complains about the intuitive buttons on this one and yes I love technology but you do have to read the manual to get the more advanced functions. The real reason you might have to read the manual is not to know how to push the buttons but rather what the radio is saying because of all the different radio bands it receives it labels them as VFO and such and within different bands different keys don't have functions etc. The manual isn't hard to read though and very informative if you actually read it. I've got all my frequiencies programmed now and just have the scanner scan those instead of wasting all the time scanning everything in between 118-136.
