I had one of these in the 80's when I first entered pilot training. Over 20 years later and they still are constructed with excellent quality.

    Trusted Companion
    Pros

Once a person learns the basics it is much more intuitive than electonic versions. It never needs its own electricity. It is a good size, durable, and timeless. In the hands of a skilled operator calculations like: various fuel volumes to weight: Farenheit to Celcius, and time speed and distance are almost instantaneous.

    Cons

It is not very good and addition and subtraction.

    General Comments

As a training tool I prefer the original E6B over the electronic versions because it is much more intuitive: especially for crosswind components; winds and performance aloft planning; navigation; and weight and balance. In the hands of an experienced operator it is quicker and more often accurate than electric versions. When you learn how you can even do base 10 math functions like multiplication and division quicly and easily.
