I'm an old Air Force , Vietnam vet from 1968 , and it really helps my PTSD to have a radio of this quality , and versatility. Thank YouMarch 10, 2018Purchased
3 weeks agoWould You Recommend?NoScanning is uselessYou cannot scan only the preset freqs but rather the whole spectrum. So naturally the scan function stops on the ASOS freq and never progresses. This makes the scan function useless.March 9, 2018Purchased
3 weeks agoResponse from Sporty's Pilot ShopThank you for the review. Scanning the presets is done by pressing the aviation interrupt button. We program our CTAF, clearance delivery, approach, tower, and ground. Scanning those 5 via the interrupt button provides quite a bit of traffic to listen to in our cafeteria. We normally keep an FM station for some background noise when not receiving traffic, but you could also leave it on Airband mode with the CTAF frequency selected. TIP: Don't program the ASOS as a preset. As you have found out, it will stop on the ASOS and not progress through the scan.March 12, 2018Doug RStaffDurability4 / 5Reliability4 / 5Performance2 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value3 / 5Would You Recommend?NoA great design, easy to use, and the Bluetooth feature is nice. But... as others have noticed... reception is poor. Unless you are at the airport and NOT in a metal building, the voices will be almost downed out by static.March 6, 2018Purchased
4 weeks agoDurability4 / 5Reliability1 / 5Performance1 / 5Ease Of Use4 / 5Value1 / 5Would You Recommend?NoHorrible receptionGreat idea, but worst purchase I have ever made. Mounted inside my hanger and had limited FM reception, no AM reception, and no aviation reception. Then mounted the antenna on the hangar roof. That improved the FM reception slightly, but no other reception still. Then mounted an 8 foot antenna 4 feet above where the previous antenna was mounted. Now great FM, poor AM, and only ATIS reception, but no aircraft. And obviously no interrupt function. Would not recommend it for a paper weight.March 5, 2018Durability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use4 / 5Value5 / 5Would You Recommend?YesLots of radio for the money, works great with an external TV antennaEverything worked as expected. It did have poor sensitivity using the antenna supplied with the scanner. Got great results using an old TV antenna I had put in the attic years ago. Even picked up transmissions that were not line-of-sight. A lot of radio for the money.March 2, 2018Durability2 / 5Reliability2 / 5Performance2 / 5Ease Of Use2 / 5Value1 / 5Would You Recommend?NoI’m sorry I bought it. It’s turning out to be just an expensive AM radioI’m sorry I bought it there isn’t much action in my area to justify owning it. I’m thinking about returning it.March 1, 2018Purchased

The interrupt feature worked maybe half the time when I was monitoring our CTAF while listening to local FM radio.February 26, 2018Purchased
1 month agoDurability5 / 5Reliability2 / 5Performance1 / 5Ease Of Use1 / 5Value1 / 5Would You Recommend?NoReturning due to scan function problems. The scan function of this receiver doesn’t seem to work. I stored 5 VHF frequencies including a very active approach control frequency. After selecting that frequency then activating the “Interrupt” function there were no further calls received. Once in a great while I heard a call on a Unicom frequency but never the approach or two tower frequencies programmed. I listened for over an hour with no calls. Also, evidently you can not select one or more of the programmed frequencies to scan, you must listen to all of them. I use the term “listen” loosely since I hear no transmissions. When using another source such as FM and selecting “Interrupt On” I still didn’t hear any aviation transmissions even though I listened for an extended period of time.
The FM antenna is connected to the B&C port but the AM antenna is internal which reduces reception. Since many purchasers will use the radio in a steel hangar it would help to be able to connect it to an external antenna.
I will be returning the unit do to the inability to scan VHF frequencies.February 21, 2018Purchased
