However, my CX-1 had become a battery-eating monster and just too unreliable to use on a FAA exam let alone for actual flight planning. I'm not sure what happened to it over the years.
Before I purchased the Sporty's electronic E6B, I was concerned about quality, ease of use, readability of the display, and battery life.
I was pleasantly surprised when I received my Sporty's flight computer as all my expectation were met. The feel and quality are great and it is only slightly larger than my old CX1. It functions very much the same way so no big learning curve was needed. The back light is a great feature and makes the display much easier to read in all lighting conditions. I simply leave the back light on all the time.
I've had it for about a year now and have never changed the batteries.
Just buy it. I waited too long to make the switch.December 27, 2017Durability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use4 / 5Value5 / 5Would You Recommend?YesWorks Great! No complaints. The poorly designed user interface is prone to creating errors and misunderstanding. For example, on crosswind component calculation a positive headwind value represents a tailwind and a negative headwind represents a headwind?December 10, 2017Purchased

The original E6B was misplaced. Until it is located, the new one will continue the task of accurately computing enroute flight times, fuel consumption, etc.December 5, 2017Purchased

The first example I tried doesn't match what is in the manual. So far I prefer the app over the actual device. Sportys should put together an online tutorial. Plus the back light doesn't appear to be workingDecember 3, 2017Durability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use5 / 5Value5 / 5Would You Recommend?YesI find this is much easier to use in flight than the manual E6B.December 2, 2017Purchased
2 months agoDurability5 / 5Reliability5 / 5Performance5 / 5Ease Of Use1 / 5Value3 / 5Would You Recommend?YesToo complex unless you dedicate the time to learn it. Tutorials are needed online! To be completely fair, I was thinking this would be a quick fix to taking my FIA written. So I only had two days to learn the functions which I did not. I used the old wizz wheel.
This is not an intuitive gadget (for me).
Searching the internet, I was unable to find any tutorials so I would assume a CFI or someone with experience would have to walk me through it’s use.
If you have the time to learn the functions I am sure it is a much more accurate tool for flight planning.
My daughter will be getting this as a Christmas present. LolDecember 1, 2017Purchased
