The most important hour in your logbook
“Pilots don’t crash airplanes because they want to,” says Collins, but even experienced pilots do. The best way to stay out of an accident report, he suggests, is to understand and manage the risks inherent in flying—every time you get in an airplane. In this completely new book, Collins shares some personal insights learned from his lifetime of flying in general aviation airplanes.

You’ll learn:
• The three word emergency checklist every pilot should know
• Why a pilot’s thought processes matter more than his experience
• Why Collins decided to stop flying as pilot in command—on his own terms
• The unique challenges (and rewards) of night flying
• Why some airplane types have poor accident records
• How to manage technology in the cockpit, and when it’s doing more harm than good

Throughout, Collins uses real life examples from his vast experience to illustrate each point. This book is a must-have for any pilot who wants to make their next hour a safer one. Approx. 210 pages, soft cover.

Pros:
A good read for anyone who has the ' It Can't Happen To Me ' mentality. The book shows that even the high hour experienced pilots were subject to the same kinds of fatal accidents as low hour pilots, which suggests to me that, there may be something missing in our training and/or ability to adequately process the challenges and risks of flying.
Cons:
NTSB's report of the facts are limited.
Not enough of ' why ' the pilots did or didn't do.

I believe that the pilots of GA flying are blessed when we have veteran pilots such as Mr. Collins who has been flying the same types GA aircrafts that we fly, 95% of his career, shares his vast experinces from those hours of operating GA aircrafts. For me, I look at it as a grandfather giving wisdom to the young as in the form of hours of experince!!!
This book acts as a mirror to make us take a serious and honest look at our abilitiies to safely operate an aircraft and how well we manage and acknowledge all the risks associated.

Pros:
Still in the process of reading this book. But it is excellent and filled with a wealth of knowledge about flying from every angle, including weather, safety and just common sense when flying. Excellent book. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in flying from novice, student up to and including professional pilots. This book as good information for all.

A lot of words for a handful of important tips. But, admittedly, one of those tips could save my life.

Pros:
Good writing and great instruction.
Cons:
A little dry.

I thought this would be more of a storytelling book. It is a great book, but it is more instructional than editorial. Nonetheless, it is a very good book.

Pros:
This is a valuable book. It is as important in its fundamental presentation as the FAA wings program. Yet, it is written well enough that it is a comfortable read. Richard Collins is correct: There is nothing quite so important as your
Cons:
Adding an appendix summarizing the safety research would be valuable.

Because of the timing of the statistics and the nature of books in general I suspect this product will have a shelf life. I would recommend Shorty's move to publish and distribute this book in volume (perhaps discounted). Richard is an excellent narrator (I have all his air facts), so you may also consider this as a book on tape or better an extended, downloadable video or both.
