It may be surprising to learn that Sporty’s, so well-known for its complete pilot training courses on DVD and online, pioneered the concept of the weekend accelerated ground school 47 years ago. Sporty’s still believes in the time-honored tradition of the weekend ground school and is planning a full schedule of courses at its headquarters – Clermont County/Sporty’s Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio.
“Even in 2010, the weekend ground school has tremendous merit,” says Sporty’s Academy President Eric Radtke. “Our ground school includes our complete pilot training course online or on DVD. When combined with the power of a lively instructor, the pilot candidate can jumpstart his/her study on the way to acing the knowledge exam.” For 2010 ground schools are scheduled for the private pilot and instrument rating exams. An additional ground school is offered for pilots interested in learning more about gliders. The Private Pilot Ground School is $130. Course material required is Sporty’s Complete Flight Training Course ($199). For 2010, the Private Pilot Ground School will take place on the following weekends (Friday through Sunday): March 12-14; April 16-18; May 21-23; July 16-18; September 10-12. The class will be held from 6 pm to 9 pm on Friday, and from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The Instrument Rating Ground School is $150. Course material required is Sporty’s Instrument Rating Course ($249). For 2010, the Instrument Rating Ground School will take place on the following weekends (Friday through Sunday): March 26-28; May 7-9; August 20-22. The class will be held from 6 pm to 9 pm on Friday, and from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The Transition to Gliders Ground School is an introduction to glider operations for power pilots. Topics will include glider aerodynamics, systems, glider performance, speed-to-fly, launch methods and soaring weather. This class is ideal for airplane pilots wishing to add a glider rating to their certificate. Glider Ground School is $40 and includes an individual copy of Sporty’s Transition to Gliders DVD. For 2010, the Transition to Gliders Ground School will be held on Saturday, April 24 and Saturday, June 26, from 9 am to 5 pm. “Of course we are ready, willing and able to take a ground school student and start teaching that student in an airplane,” adds Radtke. “Our training fleet of newer, well-equipped Cessna aircraft make Sporty’s Academy an ideal place to learn to fly.” To register for Sporty’s Academy Ground School, call (513)735-9500 or email Fly@SportysAcademy.com.
