Flying magazine's Russ Munson visits Sporty's
John Zimmerman
Sporty's received a visit today from a real aviation legend, Flying magazine's consulting editor Russell Munson. Munson is flying a trip low and slow from New York to Idaho in his Aviat Husky. He stopped at Sporty's for fuel, charts and lunch with the Sporty's team.
Munson has teamed up with Sporty's for years to offer his popular Flying Route 66 DVD. Munson wrote, photographed and narrated the video, which chronicles the entire length of the famous road. It compares the freedom that Route 66 offered to Americans with the freedom of flight.
Munson is a freelance photographer and writer who has been contributing to Flying for more than 40 years. He holds commercial, multiengine, instrument and DC-3 type ratings and has over 4,500 hours in the cockpit.
Among Munson's other credits are his book Skyward: Why Flyers Fly (wrote and photographed), and he took all the photographs for Richard Bach's classic book Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
