Constellation - Affectionately known as the "Connie," the Lockheed Constellation ushered in affordable and comfortable travel for the average person. With a cruising speed of 314 mph and a range of 2880 miles, 856 aircraft were built between 1943 and 1958. Identifiable by its triple tail design, Connies saw service as civilian airliners, as cargo airplanes during the Berlin Airlift and was also the aircraft used by President Eisenhower.

Cessna Mustang - Cessna says that the Mustang will "bring the dream of jet ownership comfortably within the reach of a whole new breed of upwardly eager operators." This new very light jet first flew in April 2005, and is on schedule to be certified by the end of this year. With a cruising speed of 340 knots and a ceiling of 41,000 feet, the Mustang will comfortably seat four passengers.

Piper Cherokee -- Piper's most successful model traces its roots back to the 1960s and grew into an entire family of very successful singles and even a light twin. The Cherokee began life with short, fat wings and in the 1970s morphed into a slender, tapered wing with the Warrior, followed by the Archer and Saratoga. Thousands of people learned to fly in Cherokees.

Pilatus PC-12 - With a winning combination of performance, utility, comfort, and economy, the PC-12 is a single-engine turboprop, now 11 years since the first delivery. Enhancements to the PC-12 in 2006 added 530 pounds to the aircraft's useful load, while winglets, derived from technology developed for the high performance Pilatus PC-21 military trainer, were added to reduce drag and improve crosswind control. Six hundred PC-12s have logged more than one million flight hours in service worldwide.

Votes will be tallied now through June 30, 2006 at noon Eastern Time. Only one entry per valid email address. Check back for the announcement of which airplane wins the honor of being featured on Sporty's 2006 Christmas Ornament.
