Summary of ATP-CTP requirement
All pilots seeking an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with multiengine privileges are required to complete an FAA-approved ATP Certification Training Program (ATP – CTP) prior to taking the ATP knowledge test. The ATP-CTP training must include classroom training of at least 30 hours and simulator training of at least 10 hours.
Sporty’s ATP-CTP Training
Five-day course takes place in Wilmington, Ohio at the ATS Air Part 142 Flight Training Center.
Sporty’s is pleased to partner with ATS to offer one of the first FAA-approved Programs. The ATP-CTP will take place at the world-class training facilities of ATS Airlines in Wilmington, Ohio (KILN). Training is conducted by an experienced instructional staff with extensive experience in transport category aircraft and airline operations.
Simulator training will take place in a modern B767 flight simulator.
To be eligible for the ATP-CTP, you must possess a minimum of an FAA Private Pilot Certification. Non-US citizens are subject to Transportation Security Administration security background screening at their own expense and student VISA requirements. Non-US citizens must begin the enrollment process at least 60 days in advance..
5 Day Course – ATS Airlines Campus, Wilmington, Ohio (KILN)
Monday - Thursday Ground school
Thursday - Friday Simulator Training
Training includes those FAA subject areas required of the ATC-CTP which include aerodynamics, upset prevention & recovery, meteorology, air carrier operations, turbine engines, performance, automation, leadership, and crew resource management.
Simulator training will include navigation, automation and high altitude operations in the level D, B767 full flight simulator.
Please be aware ATP-CTP is NOT a FAA written exam preparation course. In order to be prepared for the written exam, Sporty's recommends an independent study course such as Sheppard Air.
At checkout, you will be asked to reserve an available course date. Courses take place approximately twice per month, Monday - Friday. Courses are confirmed 30 days in advance at which time you will be charged your course fee. The course fee is non-refundable beginning 30 days from the start of your scheduled class. Transportation to and from the training facilities in Wilmington, Ohio and lodging are NOT included in the cost of your course. Your registration confirmation will include information on travel and lodging for training.
$4,750 – includes 30 hours of classroom instruction, 10 hours simulator training, and all required materials and supplies. The fee does not include travel and lodging.
Sporty's is an approved training provider for ACCESS (Army Credentialing and Continuing Education Services for Soldiers) and is eligible to receive funding from the Army Credentialing Assistance Program.
- In order to satisfy the ATP-CTP requirement, students must pass a written test with a minimum score of 70%
- Students who are not able to pass the written test may be eligible for additional training at their own expense
- Non-US citizens require both TSA clearance and student VISA and must begin the process at least 60 days prior to course start.
- Upon 30-day course confirmation, tuition is non-refundable
Travel and Lodging
Transportation to and from the ATS Airlines Training facilities in Wilmington, Ohio and lodging are NOT included in your tuition. Airports serving the southwest Ohio (Wilmington) region include Dayton International (KDAY) – 50 miles, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (KCVG) – 69 miles, and Port Columbus International Airport (KPMH) – 72 miles. All airport locations are between 1 hour and 1 hour, 15 minutes travel time to Wilmington. Additional travel and lodging information will be included with your reservation confirmation.

Courses take place approximately twice monthly, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm at the ATS Learning Center in Wilmington, Ohio. You may schedule up to six months in advance. In order to be eligible for the course certificate of completion, you must attend the entire course.
