Okay but not great
Ice melts in about 20 minutes and doesn’t blow cold after that. Cooler doesn’t keep ice very good

Not for my airplane
I am happy with the unit but it is not being used in an airplane. I have it in my 1963 Ford Van. I could be a bit more powerful but I may have not realized which unit I purchased. Also, the ice turns to water rather quickly, much sooner than 2 hours. So I have to keep a few extra ice chests full of ice to make a longer journey.
I may buy another unit just to have the extra performance and keep my passenger comfortable. As it is I have to point the outlet directly upon my body to stay cool.

Pros: 30 qt unit is taller and thinner so fits well in cargo area of C-177RG. Extension cable a must if plugging in to panel. Cons: Louder than I thought it would be but that is because it has a powerful fan. I purchased a lithium ion battery pack to go with this so I could have it on while loading without draining battery. Works great pack only weighs 2 pounds and is small. Make my own block ice for it using plastic food storage containers and it lasts twice as long as crushed ice...even in hot FL temps. Makes a huge difference glad I bought it.

Pros: Works as advertised. Great airflow and instant cooling. The high and low settings are a good idea. Cons: Can get a bit heavy. I'm not sure if the advertised 3 hours of cooling on low is realistic. I'll keep evaluating. I think it is too pricey. I still need more time flying around with it in my back seat. So far it works great and does a great job cooling my Cessna 182 during one of the hottest Texas summers on record.

Can I use this on my semi sleeper truck?
Jewels on May 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it requires a 12v cigarette connection to power the fan.
Does this unit work in semi-trucks?
Whiskey on Aug 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: While we have only used it in our airplane, I did test it initially in our Suburban and it worked great in the hot car out in the driveway. So yes, I am sure it would work in any vehicle with a compatible voltage cigarette lighter. We found that a frozen Yeti cold pack is a great addition to the bottom to keep the ice water cold longer. We just did a long cross country and found the Arctic Air to be very helpful on hot, middle of the day, fuel stops. Even after 4 hours, it still pumped out cool air. Once up at altitude, 8,500'-12,500', we would turn it off. I primarily bought it for flight training, where low altitude maneuvering and pattern work made it essential for hot days like we are having now.

Is it possible to power the unit with a battery?
Michael on Jul 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't see why you couldn't power it with the battery. I'm using the lighter in my airplane but it's still not working for me. I have the hose directed straight at the back of my neck and I am also wearing a vest with ice packs in it and I'm still too hot.
What is the wattage?
A shopper on May 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It says it draws 5 amps. Amps times voltage equals wattage: 5A x 12.5V = 62.5 Watts.
If I were running this off of an aircraft cigarette lighter, I would want a digital voltmeter to monitor voltage.
I don’t have one of these units but I am looking hard at getting one. If the manufacturer did not supply it with its own
Fuse holder in the circuit, I would install one. Because if the water pump or blower fan motor suffered a complete short,
you would want the separate fuse to blow. Either that or you should check to see what amperage the breaker is that supplies
the cigarette lighter is running off of. (Make sure some yahoo of a mechanic didn’t wire it directly from the battery)
Does cold water circulate over the coils and if so how?
A shopper on Apr 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: There is a pump that pumps ice water through something that looks like a radiator called a heat exchanger. The fan draws air into cooler through the heat exchanger and out through the big white tube. The air does blow over the ice, but the air is really cooled by the ice water flowing through the heat exchanger. The unit has 2 switches: one for the water pump for the heat exchanger and another for the fan.
What size is the drain hose?
A shopper on Aug 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Approximately 1/2 inch in diameter and approximately 5 ft in length
portable air conditioner BTU ?
John O on Sep 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The manufacturer does not list a BTU rating for their units.
How loud is this unit?
rochelle N on Jun 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: With the engine running and a headset on you will not hear the fan.
